Phoenix College Bears 2014 Football Media Guide
Presidents Welcome
We take great pride in the fact that Phoenix College
is a place where people of every age and background
come to discover new interests, explore new
careers, or begin new paths. Here at PC, they find a
combination of expert instruction, support services
and unique opportunities that set the stage for great
things, such as these phenomenal accomplishments
achieved by our student athletes and coaching staff
during the past year:
PC Mens Basketball became the first community college team in the history of
Maricopa County to compete in a mens basketball national championship game,
and became the first mens basketball team in the history of Arizona to win an
NJCAA Mens Basketball National Championship.
PC Head Softball Coach Heinz Mueller became only the second head coach in
NJCAA Softball history to record his 1100th career victory. Coach Mueller was
inducted into both the NJCAA Softball Coaches Association Hall of Fame and the
Arizona Softball Foundation Hall of Fame.
PC Mens Soccer became the first mens soccer team in the history of Maricopa
County to win the ACCAC Regular Season title and host the Region I Finals.
12 PC student-athletes were named NJCAA Academic All-Americans, each
achieving a cumulative grade point average of 3.6 or higher.
PC Head Mens Soccer Coach Dave Cameron was named the ACCAC-Region I
Mens Soccer Coach of the Year.
PC Head Mens Basketball Coach Matt Gordon was named NJCAA Division II
District I Coach of the Year.
PC Assistant Softball Coach (and former Bears Softball player) Gina Medina
was named the recipient of the Phoenix Womens Sports Associations 2013
Outstanding Female Leader Award.
Intercollegiate athletics programs have long been a vital part of PCs mission.
Phoenix College student athletes participate in the Student Athlete Scholastic
Success Program, receiving mentorship and advisement from coaches,
administration, and faculty as they strive to reach their academic goals. To continue
to encourage and support this academic excellence, PCs Center for Athletic
Victory and Education (CAVE) provides an environment recognized as the Phoenix
College Innovation of the Year for the resources it grants to our student-athletes
academically and athletically.
Phoenix College has provided outstanding teaching and learning experiences for
over 94 years, resulting in our students success in the classroom, on the field, and
far beyond. A rich history and a cutting-edge learning environment coexist at PC,
giving students a unique campus experience that is second to none.
Thank you for supporting our outstanding student-athletes in their academic and
athletic pursuits.
Go Bears!
