1. INTRODUCTION OF PROJECT
In-plant study is nothing but practical or vocational training. The main purpose of in-plant
training is to give practical exposure. The rationale behind doing an in-plant report creates a
link between theoretical aspect of management education and practical working.
The main purpose of in-plant is to orient MBA student with all the departments or
section of an organization. In-plant training gives through grounding to MBA student
regarding the management education. It is nothing but detail information of an organization
.its processes, functions, sections department, its past, its present and future prospect in the
form.
In-plant training is also gives us idea of how the theories we learn in syllabus are applied into
practice. It gives us detail idea of how each and every department in the company are
working, how they are interlinked and they communicate each other to achieve and goal of
an organization. For any MBA student, a learning combination of theory and practice is an
invaluable asset, as it helps in understanding the core principals of business by a way of first-
hand experiences. The in-plant training is a stepping stone, which will groom me for future in
the corporate world.
The in-plant training also gives us brief idea of an organization culture how the organization
actually run so that we will get good insight of difference aspect of management. Hence the
in-plant training is important in this regard.

of producing world class color television set through technical tie-up with Toshiba
Corporation of Japan.

abroad. These includes the approval from VDE testing certificate institute Germany ,the
British standard ,the CE approval for exporting to Europe and the ISO 9002 certification .
The Videocon group is ever evolving group continuing to sty trends in every sphere of
Its activity .the group enjoy and unassailable leadership position interactive T.V, color T.V,
high ended audio system ,VCD, VCR ,air conditioners ,washing machine as well as
refrigerator ,D2H.After firmly entrenching itself in a field of consumer electronic and home
appliances. The group has boldly venture into business that are crux of nation mainly
petroleum and power .The group has further ventured to leverage its strengths to boost
progress of the nation.
Videocon sprawling state of the art facility is spread across 18 locations in India .the
latest inclusion is the Rs.400 crore .ultra-modern and environmental friendly manufacturing
facility set up at Bangalore .it houses state of the robot machineries .robotic machineries and
India. Do you see disconnect there? Not anymore.
The inertia of diversification was catalyzed with the inspection of Videocon appliance ltd
in 1988. The company manufactured advance washing machines and has thus changed the
lives the millions of women. The company has revolutionized the A.C market by creating
superior quality A.C 1992 Videocon breathed new life into refrigerator market by introducing
Indias first no frost refrigerator plant follows the international quality to ensure defect free
products with a total production capacity of more than 1.5 million refrigerator per
year.Videocon refrigerator is amongst largest selling branch in the market place.

Seth Nandlal Dhoot Charitable Hospital, Aurangabad
Seth Nandlal Dhoot hospital was inaugurated at the auspicious hands of Late Krishna Kant,
then Vice-president of India, on 26

April 1988. Seth Nandlal Dhoot Hospital is the outcome
of a vision with mission .it is the fulfillment of long cherished dream of Pujya Nandlalji
Dhoot, (kakasaheb) founder of VIDEOCON GROUP OF COMPANIES who devoted his
entire life towards service to the society. His generous impulse made him keenly sensitive
towards the poor & downtrodden.
Later on fully developed cardiac center was inaugurated at the hands of Hon. Dy. Prime
minister of India, Shri Lal Krishna Advani, on 12

The Videocon School of cricket launched in Kolkata to train budding talent in the age group
of 10 to 17. The academy has been undertaken in cooperation with the captain of the Indian
cricket team, Saurav Ganguly, who has been designated chief coach. It aims to put about 700
students through the paces every year.

Energy Conservation
The company consistently pursues reduction in energy consumption in its manufacturing
process ongoing basic.
An overall awareness has been created among the employee /workers to avoid wastage of
water and power by shutting the power off when not in use. A parameter has been developed
in office atmosphere to shut power off for some part of day so as to take up manual work and
complete the manual activity during that part of the day .The lighting fixture in the
administrative areas has been optimized .a quality team has been appointed to closely monitor
the consumption of fuel and lying emphasis on non-conventional energy sources.
The group takes environment conservation seriously. It is working to equip its facilities
with methods that help recycle CRT glass, curb carbon emission and other pollutants.

Videocon already has presence in the mobile handset market with 12 existing mobile devices;
however, the company plans to introduce more new mobile phones in India over the next
couple months.
GSM Mobile Services


Videocon group operates the GSM mobile service through Videocon telecommunications
limited (VTL).VTL was granted a license by the government of India to provide unified
access service in the following 21 circles in India: Delhi, Mumbai, Tamil Nadu, Chennai,
Kolkata, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh
(west), Uttar Pradesh (East), Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Himachal Pradesh,

Oil & Gas

In the domestic oil &gas business, the group has interested in exploration, prospecting and an
intention to get into gas distributor. Beyond borders, Videocon is displaying considerable
entrepreneurial flair by becoming active in bagging exploration and production in countries
like Oman, Australia and the Timor Sea near Indonesia. This gives the group hegemonic
status in those countries along with the possibility of earning extraordinary profits.
Display Industry and Its Component

With the Thomson acquisition Videocon has emerged as one of the largest Color picture tube
manufactures in the world operating in Italy, Poland and China, continuing to lead through
new innovative technologies like slim CPT, extra slim CPT and High Definition 16:9 formats

Color Picture Tube Glass


We are one of the largest CPT Glass manufactures in the world with a high level of
experience and technical expertise operating through Poland and India. We will leverage on
this synergy after the Thomson acquisition to internally source glass CPT manufacturing
increasing efficiencies and lowering costs.

Power Business
The company is developing the Pipavav power project through a wholly -owned
subsidiary of the company ,Pipavav Energy private Limited .the project is designed to have a
capacity of 1200 MV and comprises two units of 600 MV each .the company is also
developing the Chhattisgarh power project through a wholly-owned subsidiary of the
company , Chhattisgarh power venture Private Limited .The Chhattisgarh power project is
designed to have a capacity of 1200 MV and comprises two units of 600 MW each .

4. DEPARTMENTS
PRODUCTION, PLANNING AND CONTROL
As we know that every work need good planning before execution. It is here .Here the
production refers to the production of color TV.
Planning means plan of its quantity, quality, color, models etc. and control means looking for
whole process whether everything is going in planned way or not.
Now the PPC dept. gets the information of customers demand by the marketing department
after having exact figure of number of color TV, the PPC department has to make the plan
accordingly. First step is to look after the availability of raw material. Then they check the
stock dept. and then give the order to raw material comes in store dpt. for procurement of raw
material. After that raw material comes in store dept. and goes to production dept. for actual
processing. This is main function of the PPC dept.
Besides this, this is duty of department to see that whether the production
Planning and actual production is equal or not. If not, what is the reason behind the
incomplete work?

PPC dept. has three types of plan-
Monthly
Quarterly
Yearly

The PPC dept. makes the plan according to demand of customer demand from the dealer who
is in direct contact customer. The demand also varies according to season that in summer,
rainy and winter. For ex: In festival like Diwali demand gradually increase.

Some other important function of this dept. is as follows-

How much raw material dept. provides?
How much raw material is used in the production department?
What number of ref. is produced whether it is equal is production plan?
What is the stock present in the store dept.?

PRODUCTION DEPARTMENT
Grinding department
In this dept. main function is to grind the raw material for molding operation .the main
raw material used in the process is HIPS i.e. high impact polystyrene .first of all HIPS
sheet is taken and allow to heat at specific temperature. The sheet is heated up to that
temp. Above which it become flexible, its temp. Is high, so it needs to do cool. After
that it enters in to another machine for grind .the machine makes small particles of
material for molding operator.

Press shop
Press shop is the next step in production line. In press shop, front cover, back cover
and other small particles are made. In molding operators the raw materials comes
from the grinding department. The front covers and back covers are made ass per
requirement on production line. The mold of machine is changed as per size, models
type of the front and back covers of the TV. The cycle time of the cabinets is
depending on its size. The cycle time is in between 50 to 70 seconds. After checking
the quality of the cabinet its coat with plastic and send it in paint shop for painting.

Paint shop
As name suggests, his cabinet, which comes from press shop, the main function in this
dept. is Epoxy power coating, Baking and giving color to front cover cabinet. The
back cabinets do not need to paint. In paint shop the cabinets are put on conveyor belt,
the first painter is paint the cabinet with air pressure with color. Again second painter
paints the covers with air pressure. After that next step is giving logo and model name
and other functional buttons name and cabinet. If cabinets are in two colors, example
black and silver after finishing first time painting the cabinet is covered whenever
necessary is called as masking process and the give other shade of paint. After ready
cabinet in paint shop it sends in shop floor for actual production process.

For automatic insertion various types of machine are uses to perform operation they are

MANUAL INSERTION
In manual insertion there are 55 to 60 components again insert on the PCB .the all
components like power connection cable, FBT, fly back transistor etc. are arranged on
the line conveyor after one by one all components are inserted or attached to PCB.

After fix all components the PCB go through the oven the temperature is up to 250 C
in that all the components are fixing well. After that the automatic go in cooling
conveyor.

Manual Testing
Check the entire components in manual testing.

In circuit testing
In this stage the entire PCB checks in machine. The machine checks all the connections.
If anyone components is nit inserting properly the machine display the component name and
location on PCB on the screen.

Testing PCB
Testing all the connection of audio, video, power etc.
After process and testing PCB is ready for floor operation. I.e. for actual production line
appliance.

Videocon marketing offices is located at Mumbai (Maharashtra), and Gurgaon (Haryana).

concerned with the planning &effective utilization of the firm resources, as the
resource is scared utilizing it properly is most important.
Also account department is one of the major dept. of the company, as it deals with
all the incoming & out siding flow of money. This dept. takes care of all money
related deal from companys yearly budget to give every employee its salary. It also
takes in provident fund income tax etc. of each employee. It has to deal with other
banks & general manager of the companies for money inflow or outflow details.
This dept. also looks after whether the company is making profit or not & it has to

Objective of Finance Department
To achieve an adequate growth of profiles over a period of years with minimal years
by year fluctuations.

To maintain adequate cash to meet commitment when due & and finance expansion
were necessary, without relating too much unprofitable spare cash at any one time.

The company follows mercantile system of accounting and generally recognizes income

SAP for accounting transactions.

dividends to shareholder. On the other hand, the short-term decisions can be grouped under
the heading working capital management. This subject deals with the short-term balance of

S. A.P. DEPARTMENT
This department is new to the organization as compare to the other department; the
department connects all departments together and provides all information to them. S.A.P is
system application programming. This program is developed in Germany and purchase from
it. The system software is developed for the processing of data in the company. It is a
database program linked on one serve and it is connected to all departments.
The current version in 4.6 the main objectives of this department is to collect all information
on data, so that every department must know the other departments work and must by
consulting with other department. The various fields in which S.A.P works are:

entry is visible to all departments. So no one has to go personally in other then getting
any info about department. S.A.P for its material department works to know , what is the
present stock, so the mechanical manager does not have go into store department. He
only used to check the data need in complain by the store department.

MATERIALS DEPARTMENT

This is a department in the company as it directly deals with raw material needed for the
production of products that is LCD, VCD, and DVD & STB.

This department has gets the production planning from the P.P.C department. The next step
of material department is to contact with respective vendor to fulfill the needs. According to
requirement, the department will search the vendor.
The vendor has to make the quotation and allow submitting in company including the price
list of raw material. The proper vendor is selected who is eligible from point of view of
prices; the purchase order is given to vendor. But before giving the PO to vendor, material
department checks the stock department and then accordingly gives order.
The PO has two types-
PO agreement- is for one month.
Schedule agreement-is for one year..

The Videocon industries deal with two types of procurement - local procurement and
import procurement. But it gives first preference to Indian market in case of
purchasing raw material.

The total number of vendor in TRENDS is many; the material department gets the
plan of production from P.P.C department on properly every month so that they can
start their process of purchasing raw material.

PURCHASE DEPARTMENT
The purchase department plays a very important role in Videocon because has its effect on
every vital factor concerning the manufacture, quality, cost, efficiency and prompt delivery
of good to consumers. Its function is procure materials, supplies, services, machines and tools
at the most favorable terms consistent with maintaining the desired standard of quality.
The main function of the purchasing department is first is register suppliers. Second is
placing the purchase order.
REGISTRATION OF SUPPLIERS:-

Arrange for a visit by concerned personnel if necessary.

Purchasing information and Track on Raw Material inventory:-
Receive monthly production plan from production planning and control department and
information about the stocks from the stores department.
