1.

Leadership Style

A. How would you describe the management style of the new manager, Brian?
-
Brians management style is autocratic. He made decisions without involving the staffs. He
also instruct the staffs to do things according to his way and often ask the staffs to redo the
task if its not exceed his expectation. He even blame the staffs to be the problem of why it
doesnt exceed his expectation. In short words, Brian is more like a boss instead of a
leader.

B. How might this style influence the motivation levels of the staff under his control?
-
The staffs are used to the democratic style Jim pulled up when Jim was the manager. So,
once there were some changes around the office, and Brians management style is
different, a 180-degrees change, the staffs are furious and sort of refusing changes. They
are having thoughts of transferring to another department or even another company. The
motivation level went from very high (during Jims era) to very low when Brians was the
manager.

C. Describe how you think Brians behaviour impacts on the effectiveness of the business?
-
Brians behaviour does impact on the effectiveness of the business. The impact is mainly
comes from the staffs performance in the company. Brians management style and
behaviour make the staffs tired and tend to not do what he wants because he will not
appreciate the task that the staffs work hard on anyways.

2. Work Allocation and Delegation

A. What could Brian do to improve his work allocation and delegation methods?
-
Instead of asking for volunteers, Brian could make a schedule on who amongst the staffs
are responsible to the job, so that everyone will have their turn on having the responsibility
for a big job. Brian can also discard his habit of sending someone for delegation as a
punishment. Instead of making the staff want to have the responsibility, he makes the staff
avoid having that responsibility which would actually help them in the future.

B. Explain what can be the adverse effect of using delegation as a form of punishment?
-
The downturn of using delegation as a form of punishment is the staffs would avoid having
the responsibility of the job. Having the responsibility is actually a good thing and helpful in
the future for the staffs. Delegation can actually be the kind of form of job that gives
experience to the staffs and train the staffs for future needs, and making it as a punishment
would make the staffs lack of experience.

3. Teamwork Topic

A. Do you think Brian gave the team approach a fair chance to succeed? And if not, what
mistakes do you think Brian has made in relation to developing a team approach?
-
No, Brian did not gave the team approach a fair chance to succeed. He already think that
the staffs are losers and have a negative thoughts about team building from the beginning.
He also leave the groups with confusion and not giving any further information about what
they need to do.

B. Do you agree/disagree with Brian about the limits of team and teamwork? Explain your
answer.
-
I disagree with Brians opinion. Every person in a team does have their own limit, but it
doesnt mean that they are losers and they do not need team building. In fact, Team
building activity is needed to make the team grow fonder at each other and improve the
teams performance.

C. How do leadership skills fit into the team environment and especially team / group
dynamics?

-
Every team needs a leader to drive the team to its purpose and every leader needs to have
leadership skills ~
