Students had been asked to

Identity through many
cultures and periods:

ollection/stories/identity

Students should think about
their own culture and how
these images can represent
groups.

Students will travel to the National Gallery of Victoria to
view some of the art collections.

Students should use the excursion to explore, they will
be given free roam of the gallery and be able to discover
by themselves. Letting them find answers without the
teacher present is very important in helping them to be
inquisitive and learn individually. While exploring, they
will be asked to check in with the teacher who will help
to support and elaborate on the ideas and concepts that
they are exploring.

Students will have to explore and explain these
questions throughout the session:

- What is in the piece? What do you see?
Students will be
formatively assessed
verbally in a discussion
format, relating to the
questions they have
answered and any
insight that they
gained from the
excursion to the
National Gallery of
Victoria.

- If there are people in the piece, what are they
doing? What are they thinking? How do they
feel? Put yourself in their shoes.
- Why do you think this piece was created?

The importance of this lesson is for students to connect
with the pieces and try and look at them from different
viewpoints; like emotional, cultural and historic.
This excursion is break students out of just looking at a
piece of art and stating whether it appeals to them or
not its vital that they explore and engage with the art
on a deeper level.
