Modeling & Simulation of Charge Transport in Nano-MOSFETs.
Prof. Derick Engles, Dept. of Electronics Technology, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar
Dr. S.S. Malik, Dept of Physics, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar
As critical transistor dimensions scale below the 100 nm regime, quantum mechanical effects begin to manifest themselves and affect important device
performance metrics. Therefore, simulation tools which can be applied to design nanoscale transistors in the future require new theory and modeling
techniques that capture the physics of quantum transport accurately and efficiently. In this context, in the presence of strong quantum confinement, quantum
ballistic transport and the effect of atomistic doping in aggressively scaled nano structures have been studied. Based on the non-equilibrium Green's function
(NEGF) formalism, we have developed a three-dimensional (3D) simulation framework capable of handling quantum transport in nano thin films, nano wires,

Abstract:

Two probe systems and MOSFET devices within the effective mass and Hartree approximations. We include electron-phonon interactions in our simulation
framework to study the influence of effect of atomistic doping and microscopic scattering mechanisms on the electronic transport of nano-scale MOSFET,
Two probe systems, and Nano thin films. Finally we establish the guidelines for minimum gate length to avoid short channel effects and excess sub threshold
swing degradation for different gate structures and different gate lengths W = T = 25 nm, NA = 1 x 1015 cm-3. In the case of a double-gate device the minimum
gate length is 40 nm. In the case of Triple gate it is 35nm, for Pi-gate our predictions are 30 nm, while for omega and GAA it is 25nm.

Study & design of optic waveguide on soda-lime glass using ion-exchange technique for optical communication.
Prof. J.C. Biswas, Dept of Electronics & Communication, IIT Kharagpur
Inspired by the ongoing development in the area of design and fabrication of Opto-Integrated circuits we realized that there exists a number of
interesting issues in this area that needed careful analysis and investigation. One among them is the requirement for fast transmission of data from one
chip to another or within a chip, which give rise to concept of optical waveguides. However before developing the optical waveguide one need to
evaluate the various available architectures as a developing methodology. Hence with this aim of finding appropriate optical wave guide architecture,
we have started this work. In particular I have undertaken the following work:
a. Theoretical studies of theory of optical waveguides;
b. Theoretical studies of diffusion processes needed in fabrication of optical waveguides;
c. Studies of Ion exchange mechanism and developing of simulation model for verifying the above results.
