Panrimo Intern Abroad Advisor

Dear Ms. Zaycosky,
I am excited to apply for the Panrimo physics internship in Reykjavik, Iceland, which I was told about at a study
abroad fair at Ohio University.
I believe that Panrimos support for its interns provides the perfect opportunity to continue developing my
confidence as a researcher and an explorer of this world. Thus far in the process, Panrimo has reached out to help
me find the appropriate internship for which to apply, whether this was while talking to Ellen Knuth at a study
abroad fair or receiving a postcard. I would be thrilled to work with a company that will show me this much
encouragement and support during and after my internship abroad. I appreciate Panrimos approach to creating a
community of open-minded, globally connected individuals through the design of personalized travel experiences.
Ultimately, every experience is more valuable if it affects my life for years to come and I am able to share my
experiences with others. I am confident that even after I return, my adventure will not be over. I am excited to
become a member of Panrimos worldwide community as a Panroamer. I am excited to learn about the experiences
of other Panroamers who will encourage me to continue my exploration of the world and of myself.
Last summer, I spent most of May and June traveling and studying in Scotland and then spent July and August
working in a laboratory. Both my laboratory experience and my passion for travel make me a perfect match for this
program. After investigating what piece of the world to explore next, I found Reykjavik to be the opportune place to
pursue my interests. My interest in environmental protection makes me elated to travel to a city, which utilizes
renewable energy in the form of geothermal and hydroelectric power for the majority of its electricity and heating
needs. I would love to have the opportunity to become personally connected to a place that I admire so deeply.
Besides contributing to the Panrimo community, I also look forward to contributing my skills to research. My lab
experience, constructing and testing stirling engines, helped me to gain machining skills and practice collecting and
recording data. I can also provide both the organizational and computational skills necessary in a laboratory. I
have developed these skills through my studies in the Honors Tutorial College, for which I meet with a professor
individually. These tutorials require me to study complicated concepts on my own and work through intricate
computations to showcase my knowledge. This self-driven study requires time-management, persistence, and
focus. I hope that I will be taking these skills to Reykjavik and putting them to use in important research.
Not only does research require scientific skills, but also communication and collaboration. I have developed these
skills in both my laboratory work and my job as a resident assistant. This job employs me to bring students
together and make them feel welcome. On occasion, I also need to confront students about difficult topics. This has
helped me be able to communicate with many different types of people and understand many different viewpoints.
I am anxious to hear from you. Please contact at me at your convenience via this email or by calling 740-492-3410.
Sincerely,
Sara Sand
