Problem # 1

One day, Winnie and her friends namely Farrah, Vincent, Juliane decided to put up a business. They have
agreed that it would be a food and drinks business, specifically restaurant. They named it as Linear
Restaurant. To start a business needs a big capital. This capital will be used to pay for all the expenses
and will be used in the whole cycle of the business. All in all, they need a capital of P675, 000. Winnie
decided to invest P175, 000 of her money and Farrahs share was P170, 000. Julianes share was thrice
the share of Farrah less the total investment, and Vincents investment is equal to Julianes. How much
would be Vincents investment in order for them to put up their business?
Solution:
What is asked?
How much should Vincent invest to achieve the needed capital?
Given:
Total investment
= P675 000
Winnies share
= P175 000
Farrahs Share
=x
Julianes share
= A 3x
Vincents share
=z = y
Let

A=
w=
x=
y=
z=

be the total investment

be Winnies share
be Farrahs share
be Julianes share
be Vincents share

A=w+x+y+z
675 000 = 175 000 + x + (675 000 3x) + (675 000 3x)
675 000 = 1 525 000 5x
675 000 1 525 000 = -5x
-850 000 = -5x
170 000 = x
z = y = A 3x = 675 000 3(170 000) = 165 000

Problem # 2
After reaching their needed capital amounting to 675 000, they started allocating the money; they
divided it into parts- miscellaneous expense, food expense, and drink expense. The allocated money for
the foods is 2/5 of the miscellaneous expense; the allocated money for the drinks is 4 times the budget
for the foods less twice the budget for the miscellaneous expense; and the remaining is for the
miscellaneous expense. How much will be the budget for each expense?
Solution:
What is/are asked?
How much will be the budget for the foods? How about for the drinks?
Given:
Capital= 675 000
Miscellaneous Expense= x
Amount for the foods= 2/5 x
Amount for the drinks= 2x - 4y
Let
c= be the capital
x= be the miscellaneous expense
y= be the food expense
z= be the drink expense
First Equation: c= x + y + z
675 000 = x + 2/5 x + *2x 4(2/5x)]
675 000 = x + 2/5 x + 2x 8/5 x
675 000 = 9/5x
375 000 = x
Miscellaneous: x = 375 000
Foods:
2/5 x = 2/5 (375 000) = 150 000
Drinks:
2x 4y = *2(375 000) 4(150 000)+ = 750 000 - 600 000 = 150 000

Problem # 3
December 1
Since Christmas is fast approaching, the stockholders of The Big Faces restaurant decided to
have Eat All You Can promo. The restaurant charges 250 for its Eat All You Can breakfast buffet,
and 300 for its lunch buffet. At 2 PM, the manager found that 176 people had eaten in the restaurant
that day, and the total receipts were 48 600. How many people had eaten breakfast and how many
had eaten lunch?

Solution:
What is/are asked?
How many people had eaten breakfast and how many had eaten lunch?
Given:
Breakfast buffet = 250
Lunch buffet = 300
Total people = 176
Total receipts = 48 600

Let

w = be the total people

x = be the people who had eaten breakfast
y = be the people who had eaten lunch
z = be the total receipt
x+y=w
x + y = 176 (first equation)
x+y=z
250x + 300y = 48 600 (second equation)
[x + y = 176]-300
250x + 300y = 48 600
-300x 300y = -52 800
-300x 300y = -52 800
250x + 300y = 48 600
-50x
= -4200
x= 84

First equation : x + y = 176

84 + y = 176
y = 176 84
y = 92
Problem #4
The manager of The Linear Restaurant observed that the average profit for the foods is 14 800 in a
week, while the average profit for the drinks weekly is of that profit for the foods in a week. How
much is the anticipated profit at the end of the year?
Solution:
What is asked?
How much is the anticipated profit at the end of the year?
Given:
Weekly profit for the foods= 14 800
Weekly profit for the drinks= x
Let
x= be the weekly profit for the foods
y= be the weekly profit for the drinks
z= anticipated profit in a year
*There are 52 weeks in a year.
z= x + y
z= 14 800 (52) + (14 800)(52)
z= 769600 + 577 200
z= 1 346 800
