VERBS IN SIMPLE PRESENT

USE:
We usually use the Simple Present for talking about our day-to-day activities. That is, for habits.
For example: I play football on Sundays. (Yo juego ftbol los domingos)

Esta es una actividad que hago cada domingo.

GENERAL RULES:
Positive form: (Subject + verb in simple present + complement)
-

In affirmative sentences, we add to the main verb the ending -s in the third person
singular (he, she, it).

Verbs ending in -ss, -ch, -sh, -x, -o take the ending -es.

Examples: kiss-kisses
-

mix-mixes

If a verb ends in -y preceded by a consonant, the -y is replaced by the ending -ies

Examples: tidy-tidies
-

touch-touches

study-studies

cry-cries

But if the -y is preceded by a vowel, we add -s only.

Examples: buy-buys
Examples:

play-plays

enjoy-enjoys

I work in a bank
She works in a bookshop

Negative form: (Subject + do not / does not + verb in infinitive + complement)

In order to form a negation, we use does not (doesnt) before the main verb of the third person
singular and do not (dont) before the main verb of the other persons.
Examples: I dont eat fish.
He doesnt eat fish.
In a negation, the main verb does not end in -s in the tird person singular.

Interrogative form: ( Do / does / subject + verb in infinitive + complement ? )

Use the auxiliary do.
Do you play football?
Does he play football?
