1.1 System Introduction

A solar power system is used to convert solar energy into electricity and store the electricity.
It comprises the PV modules, charge controller, storage batteries, loads, and so on.
Figure 1-1 shows the location of the charge controller in a solar power system.
Figure 1-1 Location of Charge Controller

The main function of ZXDT02 S201 charge controller is to convert the nonlinear output
voltage of PV modules into the 48 VDC voltage that is required by communication
equipment. Meanwhile. the charge controller provides multiple functions, such as battery
management, monitoring, DC distribution, and so on.

Chapter 1 Overview

Table 1-2 Functions

Function

Description

Alarm function

When a fault occurs, the monitoring unit generates the

corresponding audible and visible alarm and reports the
alarm to the background monitoring PC.

The monitoring unit stores history alarms and history

operation records.

The charge controller is provided with eight auxiliary alarm

output relays.

Protection function

Reverse connection

The solar cells can still work normally after the correction of

protection for solar cells

reversed polarity connection.

Over-current and

The charge controller provides over-current and short-circuit

short-circuit protection

protection through load switches, which should be manually

for loads

recovered after being turned off.

Open circuit protection for

In case of battery open circuit, if solar cells charge normally, the

storage batteries

charge controller will restrict the terminal voltage of the load

for protection.

Over-discharge protection

The over-discharge protection is performed through the LLVD1

for storage batteries

and LLVD2 functions. In case of over-discharge, the buzzer

gives an alarm and send signals to the remote PC.

Overcharge protection for

Battery overcharge will cause all the PV loops to be shut down,

storage batteries

In case of overcharge, the buzzer gives an alarm and send

signals to the remote PC.

Protection against reverse

To prevent storage batteries from charging the PV modules

charging during night

during night

Lightning protection

One lightning protection module is added at each PV input

terminal.

Communication function

RS232/RS485 interfaces are provided for centralized

monitoring.

Man-machine interaction function

The man-machine interaction interface helps to set system

parameters and query running data in a convenient and reliable
way.

Battery management function

Charging control function

Automatic floating and equalizing charge

Intelligent current limit management

LLVD1 function (optional: LLVD2 function)

The charge controller provides two charging control modes.

4.1 Overview
ZXDT02 S201 charge controller is usually used by mixing with the other communication
power supply. Such hybrid power supply not only expands capacity but ensures system
stability.
ZXDT02 S201 charge controller supports the following solutions for hybrid power supply:

Mixing with the racktype power supply

Mixing with the embedded power supply
Two charge controllers in parallel

4.2 Mixing with the Rack-Type Power Supply

The two battery packs are connected to the racktype power supply.
The positive busbar of the charge controller is connected to that of the racktype
power supply.
The battery connection terminal of the charge controller is connected to the -48 V
busbar of the racktype power supply.

4.3 Mixing with the Embedded Power Supply

Figure 4-2 shows the hybrid power supply by mixing the charge controller with the
embedded power supply.

The positive busbar of the charge controller is connected to that of the embedded
power supply.
The loads and the battery packs are connected to the embedded power supply.
The battery connection terminals of the charge controller are connected to the
negative terminals of the battery packs (the battery connection terminals of the
embedded power supply are very small and they cannot be connected to those of
the charge controller).

Chapter 4 Hybrid power supply

4.4 Two Charge Controllers in Parallel

Figure 4-3 shows the hybrid power supply by two charge controllers in parallel.
Figure 4-3 Electrical Connection of Two charge controllers in Parallel

Descriptions of the electrical connection:

When using two charge controllers in parallel, users only need to connect the positive
busbar and the battery connection terminal of one charge controller to that of the other.
If configuring two battery packs, connect them to one charge controller; if configuring
more than two battery packs, connect the battery packs to the two charge controllers
separately and connect the battery connection terminals of the two charge controller
in parallel. The battery in-parallel cables should be able to withstand the maximum
current of 200 A.
When the number of load branches is no more than 6, connect the entire load to one
charge controller; when the number of load branches is more than 6, connect the
loads to the two charge controllers separately.
With two charge controllers used in parallel, the PV input terminals cannot be
connected in parallel.

Monitor Networking Mode

Serial Port Mode
In this mode, the charge controller is connected to a background PC through a serial port
(ZXDT02 S201 charge controller provides RS232/RS485 serial ports). The background
monitoring software installed in the PC is used to realize local centralized monitoring. This
mode is the simplest, but the distance between the charge controller and the background
monitoring PC should be no more than 15 m.
Figure A-1 Serial Port Mode

Other Modes
ZXDT02 S201 charge controller can also achieve remote centralized monitoring through
the IP board, other transmission channels (such as microwave equipment, auxiliary
channels of optical transmission equipment) and auxiliary communication equipment. For
details, refer to ZTE Background Power Supply Monitor Software User Manual.
