Decades of experience create the basis of a

matured technology
ABB is the pioneer and technology leader in the
range of gas-insulated switchgear. Nobody has
more hands-on experience, gathered in thousands
of applications, in all types of climatic zones, in
most various conditions of use. ABB offers gasinsulated switchgears for voltage ratings from
52 up to 800 kV.
The ELK- 04 gas-insulated switchgear - a model
of success since 1992
The ABB portfolio for gas-insulated switchgears
has seen continuous extensions and improvements since the end of the Sixties. The requirements imposed by the markets and the customers
are met by innovative solutions. ELK-04, for instance, was developed in such a manner that a
complete bay fits within one standard industrial
container.
At the time of its market launch in 1992, ELK-04
was designed for a rated current of 3150 A,
a rated short-circuit current of 40 kA and a rated
voltage of 170 kV. Today, depending on the requirements, it is possible to assemble switchyards

with a higher or lower value rating at optimised

costs out of a well-devised modular system.
ELK-04 complies even with the most demanding
quality requirements. Owing to the ex-works
pre-manufactured and tested components, its
transport, assembly and commissioning are
simple and fast. Its high availability with reduced
operating and maintenance costs guarantee an
excellent substation productivity.
In this way, ELK-04 offers the highest cost
efficiency over the entire life cycle of the substation.
