SCOPE
This specification together with API standard 675, 2nd edition October, 1994, "Positive Displacement
Pumps - Controlled Volume" cover the minimum requirements for controlled-volume pumps.

1.2

DEFINITIONS
For this specification the following definitions are applicable:

Means the Requisition including all attachments.


Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) or his representative.
Carries out all or part of the design, engineering, procurement,
construction and commissioning for the project.
Is either Client or Contractor.
Is the party responsible for the delivering the goods in accordance with the
requisition. This shall also mean rendering all services forming part of the
delivery.

2.

SELLER'S RESPONSIBILITY

2.1

Any conflict between the requirements of this specification and related codes, standards, data
sheets, drawings, requisition, etc., shall be presented in writing for buyers resolution prior to
manufacturing.

2.2

Assumptions to cover lack of information are not allowed. Seller is obliged to obtain reliable
information from buyer or other sources.

2.3

Seller shall submit a list of all appliances, special tools and accessories that are necessary or
incidental to the proper installation, operation and maintenance of the equipment, even though
these items are not included on the drawings, specifications or data sheets.

3.

CORRESPONDENCE TO API
The numbers and titles correspond to the API standard 675, sections and paragraphs involved. For
API paragraphs not addressed in this specification, seller shall adhere strictly to the requirements of
API standard 675.
The word in parenthesis following the API standard 675 paragraph number indicates the modified
action taken.
(Addition)

An addition to a part, section or paragraph referred to.

(Decision)

A decision has been made where required in the corresponding


section or paragraph.

(Exception)

An exception has been made to a statement of the corresponding


section or paragraph.

(Modification)

An amplification or rewording has been made to a part of the

4.1.2.1

API 675, Paragraph 1.5.1 (Additions)

b. Following International standard is added:

Steel and Steel Products; Inspection Documents.

c. Additional engineering specifications will be covered in the specific requisition. In case of


conflict, the project engineering specifications will prevail.
4.1.2.2

API 675, Paragraph 1.5.1 (Addition)


The API 675 standard makes reference to American standards. Corresponding alternative
international publications may be acceptable with buyers approval.

4.1.2.3

API 675, Paragraph 1.5.2 (Substitution)


Governmental codes, regulations, ordinances, or rules applicable to the equipment in the country
where latter will be installed, shall prevail over the requirements of API 675 and/or this engineering
specification in those cases where they are more stringent.

4.2

BASIC DESIGN

4.2.1

General

4.2.1.1

API Standard 675 Paragraph 2.1.1 (Modification)


The word auxiliaries, shown in parenthesis, shall be read as auxiliaries and accessories (as defined in
section 3 of API 675).

4.2.1.2

API 675, Paragraph 2.1.7 (Substitution)


Motors, electrical components and installations shall be suitable for the electrical area classification
(Zone, Gas Group and Temperature Class) specified.

4.2.1.3

API 675, Paragraph 2.1.12 (Modification)


The equipment shall be designed for outdoor, un-sheltered installation. For site and meteorological

API 675, Paragraph 2.1.14 (Substitution)


The pump flow rate shall be adjustable over the entire operating range (0 - 100%) while the pump is
running or during standstill.

4.2.1.5

API 675, Paragraph 2.1.22 (Addition)


The equipment shall comply with the relevant Project Specifications and equipment data sheets.
Seller shall fill in on request of buyer, an equipment classification list, to determine if pressure
vessel type equipment and/or piping included in his scope of supply are subject to review,
inspection, etc., by the authorities.
Seller shall follow-up all buyer's instructions and provide all documentation required to obtain
approvals of the authorities.

4.2.2

Liquid End Connections

4.2.2.1

Unless otherwise specified, all customer connections shall be flanged.

4.2.3

Pump Check Valves

4.2.3.1

API 675, Subsection 2.4 (Addition/Decision)


When feasible double ball type pump check valves shall be used. In case ball type check valves are
not suitable to sellers experience, wing type check valves shall be used.

4.2.4

Diaphragms

4.2.4.1

API 675, Paragraph 2.5.5 (Modification)


Sandwich type double diaphragms are acceptable.
Seller shall provide a diaphragm failure detection system for each pumphead equipped with a double
diaphragm. Diaphragm rupture sensor systems isolation valves, if provided, shall be locked-open.

4.2.4.2

API 675, Paragraph 2.5.6 (Addition)


Pumps in toxic and / or hazardous service (refer pump data sheet) shall be provided with double
diaphragms.

4.2.5

Relief Valve Applications

4.2.5.1

API 675, Paragraph 2.7.1 (Addition)


The pump integral internal pressure relief valve set pressure shall be 10% higher than the discharge
system relief valve setting. Seller shall consult the buyer in case this results in oversizing of the
equipment and final setting shall be mutually agreed upon.
Internal relief valves shall be set during testing and sealed.

The use of asbestos is prohibited.
Unless otherwise specified, the use of plastics or similar materials for wetted parts other than
diaphragms and seals is prohibited.

Equivalent DIN materials may be used, seller shall, however, indicate the material by their ASTM
designation in all documents.

4.2.9

be shown.

4.3

ACCESSORIES

Unless otherwise specified, pumps shall be driven by an electric motor. Vertical motors shall be
equipped with a rain hood.
Electric motor drivers shall comply with the relevant Project Engineering Specifications and
equipment data sheets.

Baseplates

Base plates shall be provided for multifeed applications (multiplex pump heads), or when
required for alignment purposes between the various components and accessories or when
required to support the pulsation dampner(s).

Single head pumps (simplex pump heads) shall be mounted directly on the foundation.
Simplex pump units requiring pulsation dampener(s) requiring support shall be provided with
a baseplate..

Seller shall advise in his proposal whether supporting of the pulsation dampeners from the baseplate
leads to unnecessary oversizing of the baseplate (also refer paragraph 4.3.6.3).
4.3.3.2

API 675, Paragraph 3.3.4 (Addition/Decision)


Base plates shall be suitable for cementitious grouting. Adequate sized grouting openings and venting
holes shall be provided for each compartment. All openings shall be raised min. 6 mm (-inch) and
accessible after mounting of the equipment.

4.3.3.3

API 675, Paragraph 3.3.11 (Addition)


Base plates shall be of continious welded steel construction and shall have a drain rim with minimum
1 inch threaded plugged drain connection.

4.3.4

Controls and Instrumentation

4.3.4.1

Instrumentation and installation shall comply with the relevant Project Engineering Specifications and
applicable data sheets.

API 675, Subparagraph 3.4.4.5.1 (Decision)


Relief valve that are required for the protection of the pump (head) shall be supplied by the seller.
External (system) relief valves for installation in buyers piping shall be furnished by the buyer unless
otherwise specified.
The external relief valve arrangement for pumps forming part of a skid mounted package unit
complete with suction vessel, pressure relief valves etc. shall be subject to buyers approval.
Arrangement of piping and packing components shall be mutually agreed upon.

4.3.5

Electrical Systems

4.3.5.1

API 675, Paragraph 3.4.5 (Substitution)


Electrical systems and electric motors shall comply with the relevant Project Engineering
Specifications and applicable data sheets.

4.3.6

Piping

4.3.6.1

API 675, Paragraph 3.5.1.6 (Addition)


For line sizes 2 inches and larger mechanical joints shall be flanged. Welding-neck flanges and
lap-joint flanges are acceptable.

4.3.6.2

API 675, Paragraph 3.5.1.7 (Addition)


Socket-weld fittings shall not be used.

4.3.6.3

API 675, Paragraph 3.5.3.1 (Decision)


Process piping within the battery limit as indicated on the applicable process and instrument
diagrams shall be included in sellers scope of supply. Manifold piping shall be included when
feasible and / or required to facilitate the installation at site. Where pulsation bottles are to be
included, manifold piping and adeqate supporting of piping and pulsation suppresion devices is to
be included in sellers scope.

4.3.7

Pulsation Suppression Devices

4.3.7.1

API 675, Paragraph 3.6.3 (Addition)


Unless otherwise specified, pressure pulsations shall not exceed 2 % (half amplitude) of the system
discharge pressure.

4.3.7.2

API 675, Paragraph 3.6.4 (Addition)


Buyer shall specify suction piping and discharge piping dimensions (Piping outer diameter, wall
thickness and equivalent length), seller shall verify if pulsation suppression devices are required and
shall quote these in his proposal.
Unless specified otherwise and acceptable to the seller, gas filled pulsation suppression devices with
elastomeric diaphragm, directly mounted at the pump head inlet or outlet shall be used.

Seller shall indicate the acceleration losses of the suction line in his proposal. The value shall be
reviewed by both buyer and seller befor a final selection is made.

4.4

INSPECTION, TESTING, AND PREPARATION FOR SHIPMENT

4.4.1

General

4.4.1.1

API 675, Paragraph 4.2.1.1a (Decision)


Material certificates shall be in accordance with the international standard ISO 10474, latest edition.
Material certificates according to ISO 10474-3.1B shall be submitted for pressure-containing parts,
for parts operating in a corrosive atmosphere, for materials not covered by recognized international
standards and for piping in contact with the fluid handled and with lube oil.
Material certificates according to ISO 10474-2.2 shall be submitted for nonpressure-containing
wetted pump parts and for piping in nonhazardous service.

4.4.2

Material Inspection

4.4.2.1

API 675, Paragraph 4.2.2.1 (Addition)


The quality standard for steel castings shall be in accordance with the international standard MSSSP 55, latest edition.

4.4.3

Tests

4.4.3.1

API 675, Paragraph 4.3.3.2 (Addition)


Performance testing shall be at 5 points: 10%, 30%, 60%, Design capacity and rated capacity.

4.4.4

Preparation for Shipment

4.4.4.1

API 675, Paragraph 4.4.3 (Addition)


Prior to shipment, a final inspection shall be made by buyer to ensure that all instruments, tags, etc.,
are as specified. All the items requiring this inspection are to be collected in a central area to save
both time and energy.

4.4.4.2

API 675, Paragraph 4.4.3.2 (Modification)


The type of rust preventative used shall be indicated on a stainless steel tag attached to the
equipment. Recommended solvent for removing rust preventatives shall also be specified on this
tag.
Rust preventatives used within lube-oil systems shall be oil soluble and shall not require special
flushing procedures prior to start-up of the equipment.

4.4.4.3

API 675, Paragraph 4.4.6 (Addition)


All connections, except suction and discharge flanges, shall be identified by metal tags attached by
stainless-steel wire or stenciled imprints stamped on each connection.
