Children learn best by observing the behavior of adults and copying it. Do you agree or
disagree? Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.

A research done in one of the top leading university in the United States says that almost
80 percent of childrens intelligence comes from their parents. Children spend most of their time
at home and being surrounded by their parents and older relatives. At school, they will spend
more time with another adult such as teachers, principals or even the aunt from canteen.
Therefore, it is undeniably that children start their learning by observing and copying adults
talks and movement. There are few evidences that can support this matter.
Childrens speech production is the first thing that they will copy from their parents.
They will adapt to their first language either English or Malay according to the parents speech
pattern. For example, if the parents or any adults in the home speak Malay language most of the
time, the children are most likely to speak the language too. However, if the parents first
language is English, then the tendency that their child speaks the same language is much higher
than that of Malay.
Some children might show an early signs of being a bookworm. That happens to my
niece who loves books more than she loves candy. This unusual behavior is adapted by copying
her parents and aunts who shares the same passion. Her book collection is skyrocketing and the
numbers are almost tied with mine. To compare such behavior with other children who did not
develop the same interest is best reflected back to their parents hobbies. Inevitably, the children
will develop almost similar hobbies to the adults that surround them.
Other than speech production and hobby, I noticed that some children tend to imitate
adults in other aspects such as being a socialite and how they present themselves to public. For
example, some adults are very talkative, approachable and easy-going when socializing but not
to mention there are some who also loves being an introvert, timid and lacking of self confidence
to speak. This situation will affect their offspring which is why in time, the children will act
responsively or passively because it is depending on how the adults are behaving.

Last but not least, children gain knowledge from their teachers at school. They learn most
simply by paying attention and copying them. As academician, teachers are always expected to
show positive attitude towards their students. The constructive and encouraging teachers emits
such aura that later will produce students of the same product. The hours that spent in school are
beneficial to students if they spend it wisely. Cultivating such optimistic culture among students
is very challenging as we are living in a 21 st century.
As conclusion, children are like young trees. They need to be carefully fertilized and
trimmed. Adults are the one who responsible for nurturing as well as shaping them to become a
good person that exhibits good values. It is not just about having excellent credentials, but also
possessing presentable appearance in life that is by copying the behavior of adults.

In your life experience, what is the best advice you have ever received?

It was in the early July of 2010. I sat on one of the chairs of Low Cost Courier Terminal
(LCCT) with my brother. He was the one who sent me to the Sultan Idris University of
Education (UPSI) in Tanjung Malim, Perak as I will begin my first semester there. That day was
the day I received the best advice in my life.
I cannot forget the rain and the dark clouds in my heart despite the brightness of the sun
that stabbed my eyes forcefully. I was very nervous as well as very excited to begin my journey.
The car drive seems forever even though my brother reached 180km/hour. We chatted a lot along
the way. That was when my brother gave me the talk. He was a teacher himself. So when I got a
letter saying that my application is approved, he can never be more proud of me. I can almost see
a spark in his eyes as we chatted.
We almost reached the building blocks that produce thousands of teachers when my
brothers tone got very serious. He said, Do it whole-heartedly. Dont do it because of you are
forced to. Did someone force you? then we had a good laughed. I had sworn to secrecy that I
will do it excellently. His tone was so serious that I can replay it over and over again up to this
day. If I could engraved it on my heart I would, but I cant so I shant. It was only few paces
away before we say our last goodbyes. He repeated, Do it whole-heartedly
I carried his advice when I did my industrial training at Teluk Intan. The first day was
very brutal because I had to attend both sessions at the school. I arrived at 6.30 and left the
school about 6.45 pm. There are few challenges that I face during my 4 months of practicum like
the look that I got from other teachers, the trouble with naughty students and also inadequate
number of facilities in the school. Everything was so messed up that one day I sat down, took a
deep breath and remembered like it was just yesterday my brother gave me the advice. I got my
strength and face everything like a mere marshmallow eating contest. Grace upon Him, I
received an A from my Professor.
3 months after my graduation I got posted at my hometown. New school, new students
but the same duty to the nation began after I received a letter from the Ministry. I adapted to the

surrounding faster than I thought. I am really glad that I hung on to my brothers advice. It was
the best advice that everyone ever gave me. Whenever I feel down and low, I would replay it in
my heart and tell myself that it will all be okay. No one can shut my passion because my brother
inflamed it and the light will always glow.

The destruction of the worlds forest is inevitable as our need for land and food grows. Do
you agree?

Why destruct if we can preserve? Why regret if we were able to make decisions from the
beginning? Why suffer the aftermath if we can prevent the cause? Which is why, from the
humanitarian stand, I disagree on the destruction of the worlds forest even though it is inevitable
as our need for land and food grows. Damaging the forest affects the nature greatly.
A specific study was carried out by SarVision, a satellite monitoring and mapping
company that originated with scientists at Wageningen University in the Netherlands. The result
of the study shows a shockingly humiliating and massive deforestation in Malaysia, where it
reveals that the total deforestation in Sarawak is 3.5 is greater than all Asia combined. The
researcher then investigated the matter and found out that the reason of this treacherous act are
mainly because of most of the products are being converted into palm oil plantations. We should
follow the act of Norway people that are willingly to pay Indonesia $1 billion dollar annually to
decrease forestation in their country.
The effects of deforestation takes on as such the deficiency of trees will interrupt the flow
of Carbon Dioxide (CO2) and Oxygen (O2) in the ecosystem. The abundance of CO2 found in the
air triggers the green house effect. With the help of trees from the forest, the cycle of CO 2 can be
done instantly. However, since the destruction of forest is massively done, CO 2 can affect the
ozone layer by thinning it. As we all know, ozone layer is important in protecting us from the sun
rays. Therefore, the thinning of the ozone layer will make the sun rays hit us directly and take on
our health.
I disagree with the statement which therefore a solution must come in a way. In Perak,
there was a 10 million project in Teluk Intan which the place does not exist naturally until the
government put an effort on building a land. Years later, the places grew and become more
developed. School, houses and paddy filed were built since then. It was a very successful scheme
of idea that seems to avoid deforestation. Instead of chopping them, we can plant more trees. The
trees will convert the abundance of CO2 to O2. Its a simple solution that benefits us greatly. We
can get food as well as preventing the bad effect of deforestation.

As conclusions, illegal deforestation is not something that we should be proud of because

it is a cruel way of punishing the innocent Mother Nature for the crime it did not commit. There
are many alternatives that we can conduct other than chopping down the trees excessively.
Awareness campaign should be conducted continuously to educate the nation that deforestation
is bad for us. Also, a large sum of fine should be given out to those who dare to trespass a
preserved forest. Therefore, all acts must come together so we can ensure that no such activity
takes place in Malaysia.

Tourism is becoming increasingly important as a source of revenue for many countries but
its disadvantages should not be overlooked. What are some of the disadvantages of
tourism?

Tourism is one of the sectors that benefit our country greatly. For me, tourism helps
people to forget their daily basis and have a day off once in a while. We all cannot wait for the
next holiday season to get away from the hectic routine we always had. While tourism gives
advantages from the economic perspective, I must say, there are also disadvantages that comes
from tourism.
The most obvious negative impact of tourism is the increase number of crowds in a place
at a time. During summer vacation, most foreigners chose to spend their holidays in a tropical
country like Malaysia, Indonesia or Thailand. I remember my conversation with a German
tourist who spent her summer break in Malaysia for 2 months before she headed off to Indonesia.
It was pretty obvious that place that promises calm and relaxation will attract more people.
Therefore, during a seasonal period, the place will be full of crowds and the living cost will rise
as well.
Another problem of living with full crowds is the waste that they produce. The waste
produces are in various forms of rubbish and are unlikely easy to be managed later. Method in a
more eco-friendly way must be found so the area that contaminated with rubbish does not
interrupt any life around it. Eco friendly methods of waste disposal such as recycling must be
taken seriously as it saves resources and helps keep running costs down.
Other than that, one of the disadvantages of tourism is the massive destroy of the
environment. It is as such many trees were cut down every year in order for buildings like
resorts, hotels or any other possible tourists attractions to be opened. The irresponsible
companies are always greedily seeking for spaces that are possible for the construction of the
holiday inn. If this matter continuous, we are going to lose the habitats for many endangered
species animals. Up until today there are many animals losing their habitats globally because our
ecosystem became imbalance. Governments should think of a way to rectify this matter before it
got out of hands.

Only yesterday the prime news in Malaysia aired a murder case which involved a
Bangladesh tourist who was stabbed on his back. He was stabbed on his back because of his rape
attempt on our local female citizens. This has raised an outrage among Malaysians because it
proves that tourism can increase the crime rate in our country. The crime occurs and successfully
had caused in the boost of other unhealthy activities like burglaries, murders and home invasions.
We must not neglect this intrusion and take actions instantly. The uncontrolled flow of them
might affect the publics mind on security and safety in Malaysia.
As conclusion, we can say that tourism has its pros and cons. Even though tourism is
beneficial to us, it can become out of hands if we do not think through of its possible
consequences to our country. Therefore, it is about time we use the power in our hands to control
things before it gets worse.

What do schools need to do to prepare students for the 21 st Century? Discuss your
opinions.

Obviously, most things are not the way it was before 10 years ago. We have to admit that
the work force for education is likely to be different for our students than it was for us. It is hard
to imagine what kindergarten students today would be like in 2025. Schools need to make sure
that there are experiences and skills that they need to obtain in order to face the challenging 21 st
century. Tony Wagner of Harvard University worked really hard to identify those skills required.
The first skill that should be infested is regardless the advance in modern technology;
students must possess an effective oral and written communication. We certainly would want the
students to avoid ungrammatical words in essay, mumbling or rather eating some words while
speaking or even giving presentation in front of the classmates by reading it from notes. We need
to teach our students how to speak fluently, confidently and clearly. These efforts are none other
than to make them the best communicator.
We should also teach them at seeing problem from different perspectives or better known
as critical thinking. Students must have the ability to think and act quickly regardless of the
problems that they encounter in their field. The problem must lead to multiple solutions. Hence,
to practice this skill, teachers must familiarize them with the situations. This way, their skills that
already developed can be applied to help them figure out a solution which also applicable to realworld problems. Indirectly, this helps students make sense of their world by connecting what
they learn with what they know, with other content areas, and with other ideas.
A student learning in group is one way of testing the students skills in collaboration with
peers. This ability will discover his forte either lead or be lead. This also definitely helps them
in advance and become successful in their future chosen career. To best prepare the student, a
typical teamwork work frame is required. Instead of simply getting into a group and splitting the
tasks with each other, teacher should encourage students to take on different roles within their
group for each task which sometimes means that they can be the group leader or the supporting
group member.

We cannot over look the implication of the vast change of technologies. The existence of
smart phones, tablets and modern gadgets might as well hinder their hand writing skills. It is a
simple matter but a lot of thing will happen if they have a hideous handwriting. It is possible that
next generations will not use pen in classroom. It is most likely that their main learning materials
in classroom are one of those high-technologies tablets that type words upon sounds. Im not
saying it is important but we must never take things for granted.
In conclusion, school has much to offer to students but it is entirely up to them whether
they are ready to face the challenges of 21 st century. One must decide for ones future.
