NOTICE INVITING QUOTATIONS

1. Quotations are invited for the supply of required equipmnets for Electronics Department of this
Institute as per list overleaf by 30.04.2012 at 02:00 PM. The quotations will be opened at 03:00
PM on 30.04.2012. The covers containing the quotations must be marked "QUOTATION FOR
ELECTRONICS AND COMMUNICATION ENGINEERING items DUE ON 30.04.2012
AT 02:00 PM.
(TWO BID SYSTEM WILL BE FOFLLOWED ALL THE BIDDER ARE REQUIRED TO
SUBMIT TECHINCAL AND FINANCIAL BIDS IN SEPARATE ENVELOPS FOR EACH
DEPARTMENT & EACH ITEM . EMD SHOULD BE SUBMITTED WITH THE
TECHNICAL BIDS.
2.

THE RATES QUOTATION SHOULD BE F.O.R. JAIPUR inclusive of all charges e.g.
packing, forwarding local taxes, railway freight, transit insurance, for outside firms and free
delivery at Institute stores in the case of local firms. The rates may also be quoted separately "exgodown/F.O.R. dispatching station. In case of Ex-Godown rates, please mention your packing
and forwarding charges. Where there is no mention regarding delivery period in the quotations or
where the items are offered ex-stock, the firms will be required to supply goods within one-month
time.

Quotations should preferably be given only for those articles, which are available ex-stock. Other
items should be quoted separately giving the delivery period. Rates of imported goods be quoted
excluding custom duty as this institution is exempted from payment of custom duty. The rates of
indigenous equipments may be quoted without Excise Duty as this institute is exempted from
payment of Excise Duty.

4.

As far as possible, quotations should be given for goods of Indian manufacture and foreign
goods, which are readily available. Foreign goods quoted and proposed to be supplied should be
covered by normal import quota of the dealer. This institute is exempted from payment of custom
duty.

5.

Detailed specifications and "make" of each item should be clearly given supported by the
illustrated pamphlets wherever possible. Quotations without specifying the make and other
particulars may be rejected. The payment will be made after the goods have been received,

opened, checked and found to be in order up to our entire satisfaction. The accessories included in
the equipment should also be clearly mentioned.
6.

Losses or damage in transit will be in to the account of the supplier in case of rates F.O.R.
JAIPUR. The supplier may, if he so desires, get the goods insured and include such charges in
the tendered rate.

7.

The payment for the ordered items would be made after the articles have been received and
found in order. Normally payment shall be made through a crossed cheque within 30 days of the
receipt of goods.

8.

Your rates should be valid at least for three months from the last date of receipt of quotations.

9.

All legal proceedings, if necessity arises to institute may be any of the parties (Institute or
Contractor/Supplier) shall have to be lodged in the courts situated at Jaipur and not elsewhere.

10.

The undersigned is not bound to accept the lowest tender and may reject any tender or any part of
the tender giving justification for such an action.

11.

The rates must be quoted item-wise by giving Serial No. of our enquiry letter.

12.

The quotations should preferably be sent duly typed.

(a)

The Penalty Clause is as under :-

Should the tenderer fail to deliver the goods within the period specified in the tender form the
Institute may, at its discretion, allow an extension in time subject to recovery from the tenderer
as agreed liquidated damages, and not by way of penalty, a sum equal to the percentage of the
value of stores which the tenderer has failed to supply for period of delay as stated below: (i)

In case of failure to supply the goods within the prescribed time and in accordance with
the specifications give in the Quotations, the institute shall be free to cancel the order and
make purchases from the next higher tenderer or from the open market as the case may
be. In that case the loss sustained by the institute shall be recovered from the defaulting
supplier. The institute will be at liberty to recover the loss from the permanent earnest
money/or any other pending claims of the supplier without prejudice to its general right
to affect recovery from the supplier.

14 EARNEST MONEY: A Demand Draft for 2 %- of the quoted cost only in the name of the
Registrar, M.N.I.T. may please be sent along with your tender as Earnest Money without which
no tender shall be considered. Cheques are not accepted as earnest money amount. No
interest is paid by us on the amount of earnest money.
15 Successful bidder will have to furnish. Performance security @ 10 % of the
equipment cost , valid for 1 Year + 2 month on the form of Bank's Guarantee
from a nationalize Bank.

COT-01: iscrete component trainer should be designed


mainly to study characteristics of basic semiconductor
devises such as diodes, BJT, FET, MOSFET, UJT, PUT, DIAC,
TRIAC, SCR, IGBT, LDR, Photo transistor, photo diode etc. To
achieve the flexibility in the design various resources such as
resistor, capacitor, diode and Potentiometer banks of
different values should be provided on board.

Using some of the onboard resources user should be able to


design small applications. Relay and opto coupler should be
provided to study their functionality and characteristics. On
boards variable regulated positive and negative power
supply should be provided to cater the need of different
supply voltages required in the design. The trainer system

analysis and optical time domain reflectometry (OTDR). Should investigate the
fundamental properties of OTDR eg dead zone, distance and spatial resolution,
dynamic range, etc., identify events and determine their location along a fibre link using
the OTDR. It should be possible to examine and measure various loss mechanisms
along the link at both 1310nm and 1550nm (i.e. Rayleigh scattering, Fresnel reflection,
different connectors, directional coupler, WDM, standard splice, splices between
standard to dispersion shifted SMF and fibre bends). Fault location and analysis on a
series of networks with deliberately introduced faults should be possible. Should also
be possible to remotely analyse traces acquired on the OTDR on a PC using the trace

Should be a comprehensive laboratory educational package for investigating the
principles and characteristics of erbium doped fibre amplifiers (EDFAs) Should
investigate the full gain and noise characteristics of an in line EDFA as used in long
distance optical communications links and optical networks. Students should be able
to measure the gain characteristics of the amplifier (i.e. point of transparency, gain
gradient, gain efficiency, signal saturation, pump saturation and saturated output
power), amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) levels and noise amplitudes as a
function of input signal level over a range of pump powers. (Detailed Specs available

Should be a comprehensive laboratory educational package for investigating the
principles and characteristics of lasers based on an Erbium Doped Fibre Ring Laser.
The kit should enable the students to investigate the principles and characteristics of
lasers using an Erbium Doped Fibre Ring Laser formed by a series of fused fibre
couplers used in turn to connect an EDF amplifier output to its input, thus forming a
series of uni-directional fibre ring lasers. Experiments should include measurement of
the pump power characteristic of the laser for several output coupling ratios and
various levels of intra-cavity loss and investigation of the variation of lasing threshold
and slope efficiency as a function of output coupling ratio, intra-cavity attenuation and
pump power. In addition the pump laser in the EDFA should be fitted with an external
modulation input to allow the examination of laser dynamics; the students should be
able to investigate and measure the laser relaxation oscillation frequencies for different
pump powers, levels of intra cavity loss and output coupling ratios, and also examine
the square of the relaxation oscillation frequency versus pump power in order to derive
the excitation lifetime. It should be possible to explore the laser onset time delay as a
function of different pump powers, levels of intra cavity loss and output coupling ratios.

Should be a comprehensive laboratory educational package for investigating the
principles and characteristics of WDM Components, WDM/DWDM systems and Fibre
Bragg Grating as a temperature sensor. Should be possible for students to measure
insertion losses, backreflection / return loss, for: a fused biconical taper (FBT) coupler,
a FBT WDM, an isolator, a circulator, an Optical Add/Drop Multiplexer (OADM), and
backreflection from PC and APC connectors. Also, it should be possible to determine
the isolation/extinction ratios for an isolator, circulator and OADM and characterise &

1550nm measurements, and also measure and plot the variations in LVI

for students to also determine fibre attenuation and link length and estimate the
chromatic dispersion of singlemode fibre at 1310nm & 1550nm. It should be possible
to assemble and characterise a two channel 1310nm & 1550nm WDM system. The
equipment should also allow examination of temperature tuning effects on a Bragg

1. Requirement:

A connectorised erbium doped fibre amplifier pumped by a 980nm laser diode


(pump power tuneable from 0 at least 60 mW via front panel control and displayed
on an LCD) to provide small signal gains of the order of 25dB. The amplifier should
contain optical isolators and angle polished connectors to limit positive feedback
and suppress oscillation (i.e. laser action)

A 1550nm DFB laser source to provide the input signals. The source should be
specially designed to provide signal levels in a range from approximately -40dBm up
to -3dBm (0.5mW) without degradation of its coherence properties (i.e. its linewidth).

A suitable photodiode detection system for measuring the input signal levels over a
large (40dB) dynamic range. The unit should allow the measurement of the
amplified AC signal power super imposed on a high quasi DC level of ASE using

WDM Components, WDM Systems & Bragg Gratings: ED-WDM Series

1. Requirement:
Should be a comprehensive laboratory educational package for investigating the principles and
characteristics of WDM Components, WDM/DWDM systems and Fibre Bragg Grating as a temperature
sensor. Should be possible for students to measure insertion losses, backreflection / return loss, for: a
fused biconical taper (FBT) coupler, a FBT WDM, an isolator, a circulator, an Optical Add/Drop
Multiplexer (OADM), and backreflection from PC and APC connectors. Also, it should be possible to
determine the isolation/extinction ratios for an isolator, circulator and OADM and characterise & examine
the narrowband wavelength response of Bragg grating and DWDM modules. It should allow the student
to measure and plot the variations in LVI characteristics of an ITU Grid DFB laser with operating
temperature on a Personal Computer using a dedicated driver and display software. It should be also be
possible to investigate and characterise a two channel DWDM system and examine channel add / drop
and measure system crosstalk / channel isolation. It should also be possible for the students to examine
the effect of wavelength drift on DWDM System cross-talk, and the influence of system crosstalk on Eye
Diagrams / BER in DWDM systems. In addition, it should be possible to perform experiments to measure
insertion loss and backreflection/return losses for various components at 1310nm and to compare with
1550nm measurements, and also measure and plot the variations in LVI characteristics of the 1310nm
laser with operating temperature. It should be possible for students to also determine fibre attenuation
and link length and estimate the chromatic dispersion of singlemode fibre at 1310nm & 1550nm. It should

be possible to assemble and characterise a two channel 1310nm & 1550nm WDM system. The
equipment should also allow examination of temperature tuning effects on a Bragg grating and
subsequently its role as a temperature sensor.

2. Technical details:
1)

Sources:

Two Rack mounted Tuneable ITU Grid DFB Lasers (SC/APC receptacles) with integrated precision current and
temperature drivers, respectively.

DFB Laser Spectral width: Typical 5MHz

Additional Rack mounted 1310 nm Laser (SC/APC receptacle) having Power 1-2mW, Emission wavelength: 1310nm
+/- 5nm with Wavelength tuneability: 2nm

Max external modulation (via SMB interface) Frequency for direct modulation of ~ 100MHz via bias-tee arrangement.
DFB Output Power: Nominal 2mW (each).
The wavelength of the DFB sources shall be tuneable, with readout of wavelength on a front panel LCD Display. The
wavelength should be tuneable in 10pm steps with tuning range 0.8nm for fine wavelength characterisation of Bragg
gratings and wavelength dependent components (e.g. WDM filters) and examining the effect of change in source
wavelength on WDM System Cross Talk.
