Power Supply Robots

This document gives a brief overview of how to connect the KUKA robot controller to an electrical network
for the KR C1 and KR C2 robot controllers. Do note that this document does not replace the
specifications sheets of the robots. For the up-to-date specification sheets and for an overview of the
operation conditions of the robots, go to the website of KUKA and download the specifications of the
robots and the controllers from the download section.

The robot controller must only be connected to a power system
with a clockwise rotating field. Only then is the correct direction
of rotation of the fan motors ensured.

Heavy-duty robots: 3x32A automatic fuse with C-characteristics
Equipotential bonding

The common neutral point for the equipotential bonding

conductors and all protective ground conductors is the reference
of the power unit. The robot may only be used with the PE
grounded neutral point.

3x400 V + PE + N

The N-conductor is only necessary for the service socket option

with a 230 V power supply.

TN (TNC or TNS) network

TN (TNC or TNS) network is required. A robot only can be

connected to an IT-network using an optional transformer

Residual-current device
(Ground fault interrupter)

300 mA per robot controller, universal-current sensitive

When using residual-current devices, these devices must be
selected so that they are compatible with the frequency
regulators and choppers used in the KRC robot controllers.
Examples are 26821 connector of Merlin-Gerin or Siquence
Type B connector of Siemens. Both connectors can be used in
combination with automatic fuses.

Power supply connection to the KR C2 robot controller

The robot controller KR C2 can be connected to the mains via the following connections:
- X1 Harting connector on the connection panel
- XS1 CEE connector; the cable is led out of the robot controller (optional)

Power supply connection via X1 Harting connector

A Harting connector bypack (1) is supplied with the robot controller. The customer can use this to
establish a connection between X1 (2) on the robot controller and the power supply. KUKA
Automatisering + Robots N.V. is using this option and not the connection via CEE connector XS1 for all
its projects, as this option is easier to integrate in robot cells.

Power supply connection via CEE connector XS1

With this option, the robot controller is connected to the power supply via a CEE connector (2). The cable
is approx. 2.9 m long and is routed to the main switch via a cable gland (1). KUKA Automatisering +
Robots N.V. is not using this option for its own projects, but is using the X1 Harting connector.
