Ozone (O 3), also called trioxygen, is three atoms of oxygen. Ozone is a very unstable gas that degrades into breathable oxygen (O 2). Ozone is formed from oxygen in ambient air by putting the air
under ultraviolet light. This allows it to be produced onsite with no need for a gas storage container.
Ozone is a 50% stronger oxidizer and has a bacterial kill rate 10x faster than chlorine. It is
highly reactive with substances that come into contact with it. Ozone sterilizes by killing microorganisms, bacteria, parasites, mold and yeast in water sources because it damages organic mol-
ecules. It also degrades other contaminants in water such as urea, manganese, iron, arsenic, hydrogen
sulfide and nitrates. Ozone can also help flocculate particles.
