Create the Ideal Path and Achieve Success

Using The Birkman Method® in Career Exploration

Are you looking to determine or validate your true ideal career and in the process stand out above
the crowd? A career personality test may be ideal for you.

The Birkman Method® career personality test has been widely used in the business world for years
and is the industry-leading assessment that facilitates individual growth, leadership development
and career management. Several universities are also using the career personality test to aid in
career guidance and to help students understand working relationships found in business.

For example, the Moore School of Business at the University of South Carolina began using the
career personality test in 2001. Since then more than 1,000 graduate students have taken it. As a
result, its placement rate for graduates within 90 days of graduation has increased from 45 percent
to 88 percent. Employers familiar with the school’s students said the students are now “more
focused” and “know what they want.”

For over 50 years, executive coaches, corporate human resources professionals, independent
consultants, educational institutions and other organizations have used The Birkman Method®
career personality test with over 2.5 million individuals. The Birkman Method® accurately measures
productive behaviors, stress behaviors, underlying needs, motivations and organizational
orientation.

What is The Birkman Method® Career Personality Test?

The Birkman Method® combines motivational, behavioral and interest evaluation into one single
assessment, which provides a multi-dimensional and comprehensive analysis. The questionnaire is
delivered on-line and should take about 45 minutes to complete.

The Birkman Method® includes the five following major perspectives:

1. Usual Behavior - an individual's effective behavioral style of dealing with relationships and tasks.

2. Underlying Needs - an individual's expectations of how relationships and social situations should
be governed in context of the relationship or situation.

3. Stress Behaviors - an individual's ineffective style of dealing with relationships or tasks; behavior
observed when underlying needs are not met.

4. Interests - an individual's expressed preference for job titles based on the assumption of equal
economic rewards.

5. Organizational Focus - the perspective in which an individual views problems and solutions

What users are saying about The Birkman Method® Career Personality Test

“Self-understanding is the springboard for success as a leader. A lack of self-awareness is disastrous

for today's managers and almost always assures a mediocre career at best. Knowing this, the Office
of Career Management at Moore uses The Birkman Method® as the foundation for all Graduate
Career and Professional Development.

Since we’ve been using the assessment, we’ve really found the Birkman is what defines who we are
now. Not using the Birkman is like making cake without the flour.”

- Jane Wells
Director, Graduate Career Management Office
Moore School of Business
The University of South Carolina

“The Birkman Method is by far the most comprehensive, user-friendly assessment I have come
across in my career. It goes beyond personality and drives deeper to unearthing hidden
motivators, identifying ideal job fit and career-pathing and illuminates potential conflict areas. The
reporting options are terrific and provide wonderful tools for managers and associates to utilize in
growing both individually and as teams. I highly recommend the Birkman for any person or
business interested in using a tool that can assist them in their personal and professional growth.”

- Mindy Czuchra, Director

Corporate Logistics University

“The Birkman Method is a great tool. I think the students will refer to it and reflect on it for the rest
of their lives. It’s something that gets them to really think about who they are.”

- Barbara Moore

“Successful people are able to capitalize on their own behavior styles and the styles of those
around them. The Birkman focuses that reality by measuring and reporting the unique behavioral
and motivational qualities that each of us bring to our work and our relationships. Birkman has the
methodology to help optimize the performance potential of individuals, teams, and organizations
by providing unequalled knowledge about how people interact with one another and how they
effectively contribute to an organization’s goals and objectives.”

- Bob Miller, Senior Manager Human Resources
