Then, divide Ss into two teams, standing at the back of the classroom.
Give each team a different colored board marker.
Tell Ss that when I say a verb in its infinitive, one person from each
team must run to the board and circle the same verb in its past simple
form.
The first person to circle the correct verb gets a point for their team.
Each student isn't allowed to do it again unless all his team members
participated.
The winner is the team with the most points when all the words have
been circled.

PRESENTATION
COMMUNICATION
PRACTICE
ACTIVITY
This presentation revises the form of the past simple rather than teaches it
from scratch.
Before students read the text, ask them to look at the pictures and ask them
questions about what they can see.
Pre-teach the word climbing frame.
Answer:
Yesterday Lucy and Michael got up late because they didnt have to go to
school. They watched television while they ate their breakfast.
After breakfast they went to the park, they both ran to the climbing frame,
but Michael got there first. They played on the climbing frame for a long
time.
In the afternoon Lucy and Michael went to a birthday party. It was their
grandmothers birthday. Lucy gave her grandmother a present and a card and
later they all ate cake.
COMMUNICATI
ON
Before doing the listening activity, ask the students about the boy in the
picture, eg. how old do they think he is.
PRACTICE
Tell the students that you will read the text more than once, so it doesnt
matter if they do not understand everything the first time.
ACTIVITY
Text:
What did I do yesterday? Well, I got up really early, and I went out and
bought the newspaper for my father.
Then at ten oclock I went to the park with my friend Peter, we played
basketball, then we bought an ice cream, and we rode our bikes home.
In the afternoon I watched television, then I went to my bedroom and did my
homework.
In the evening I listened to music and read my book. Then, at nine oclock I
went to bed.
