BlackBerry Enterprise Security


Overview Course Details
This course will introduce participants to general security concepts
including cryptography, encryption, and decryption. Participants Course Code: 70IPSC41
will focus on the BlackBerry® device specific implementation of
these concepts as well as the BlackBerry Enterprise Solution™ Test Code: N/A
security implementation. Bluetooth™ security, the S/MIME Support
Package and the PGP Support Package are also discussed.

Course objectives

Module 1 – General security concepts

• Define various security concepts and discuss the importance of security.


• Define and explain the terms cryptography, encryption, and decryption.
• Define and discuss at least three cryptography methods.
• Discuss certificates.

Module 2 – BlackBerry device security implementation

• Discuss the BlackBerry device software functions in reference to security.


• Review certificates and look at the BlackBerry specific information concerning certificates.
• Discuss the BlackBerry implementation of Triple DES and AES.

Module 3 – BlackBerry Enterprise Solution security implementation

• Review data flow through the BlackBerry Enterprise Solution.


• Define the security measures available for each component of the BlackBerry Enterprise Solution
architecture.
• Identify the differences between the three supported messaging servers.
• Explain the purpose of the BlackBerry Mobile Data System™ (BlackBerry MDS™) Connection Service and
the security concepts associated with it.
• Compare the browsers that are available on the BlackBerry device and discuss the security aspects of each.
• Discuss the security aspects of PIN and SMS messaging.
• Discuss the security aspects of third party applications.

Module 4 – Bluetooth wireless technology security

• Explain Bluetooth wireless technology.


• List the uses of Bluetooth wireless technology with reference to BlackBerry devices.
• Discuss the ways that Bluetooth-enabled BlackBerry devices are protected.

Module 5 – BlackBerry with S/MIME Support Package version 4.1

• Discuss the S/MIME Support Package.


• Explain desktop and device certificate management and private key management.
• Explain wireless certificate lookup and validation.
• Discuss sending and receiving S/MIME messages.

Module 6 – BlackBerry with PGP Support Package version 4.1

• Discuss the PGP Support Package and PGP encryption.


• Explain PGP key and private key management.
• Explain the role of the PGP Universal Server.
• Discuss sending and receiving PGP messages.
