Clara Guerrero, Chris Barnes are Champions

At 50th QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup
WROCLAW, Poland Clara
Guerrero and Chris Barnes took
the first place Championship trophies at 50th QubicaAMF
Bowling World Cup in Wroclaw,
Poland, last week.
Clara Guerrero, of Columbia,
now 32, first bowled in the World
Cup as a young 17-year-old in
2000 in Lisbon where she finished
2nd. Its taken me a long time to
come back to win it! she said after
her three game victory against Li
Jane Sin of Malaysia. This is such
an historic tournament and so
many great players have won it in
the past and I really wanted to
make myself part of that group.
Clara did not have the best preparation as she did not arrive in
Wroclaw until 1pm on the first day
of the event and she was bowling
at 5.30. She missed the practice
sessions and struggled a bit to start
with. But she steadily improved
until the end when she hit a new 8game record and her 747 over the
three games in the final rolling
239, 243 and 265, also qualified as
a new World Cup record.
In the semi-final Li Jane had
beaten Brittni Hamilton of the
USA by 2 games to 1: 181-235;
236-234; and 213-204. Li Janes
set in the final was 702 on games

of 234, 257 and 211.

The mens games were no less
exciting. In the semi-final Chris
Barnes beat Mykhaylo Kalika of
the Ukraine by two games to one
but the excitement was Barnes
300 game, only the second time we
have seen a perfect game in the
finals. Barnes moved on to play
the young man from Germany,
Tobias Brding who had led the
tournament all week.
Tobias did not bowl badly at all
but lost game one rolling 248 to
269. It was nip and tuck all the way
in the second game but Barnes ran
out the winner by 231 to 216.
Asked afterwards about competing
in an event where all he wins is a

trophy and the prestige, Chris said:

Ive come to appreciate how
many great international players
have won this title and winning
was definitely on my bucket list. I
had placed 2nd in the qualifiers
five times, but then this year I actually won my way here. I am really pleased to win but I do feel for
Tobias. He dominated us all week
and Ive been the guy who led by a
lot but lost in one game so I do
know how he feels. But he has a
great future in bowling ahead of
him
The Bent Petersen trophy for top
nation goes again to the USA with
Brittni finishing 3rd and Chris
winning.

Brian and Connor LeClair

NEWARK, N.Y. The father and son team of Brian and Connor LeClair
of Albany, New York, defeated fellow New Yorkers Joe Ciccone of
Buffalo and Sammy Ventura of Syracuse, 2-0, in the best-of-three-game
title match to win the Professional Bowlers Association Doug Kents
Central New York Doubles Classic at Doug Kents Rose Bowl Lanes.
The LeClairs won a first-game roll-off 8-6 after tying at 389 and they
completed the sweep with a 397-368 win in game two.
The event teamed one bowler under the age of 50 with a PBA50 player for the over/under doubles format. The win marked the 18th career
regional title for Brian LeClair, who turned 50 on October 20. Connor,
the oldest of his two sons, is a student at Fordham University and was
competing in his third PBA regional event. Connor, a non-member, does
not earn a PBA title because PBA titles are only awarded to players who
are members at the time of their victories. Each earned $1,500 for their
win.
The LeClairs defeated host and Hall of Famer Doug Kent and his partner, Mike Tryniski of nearby Fulton, 2-1, while Ciccone and Ventura
defeated Matt OGrady of Matawan, New Jersey and Ray Edwards,
Middle Island, New York, 2-0, in the semifinal round to set up the championship match.
Ciccone and Ventura shared the $1,500 runner-up prize while teams of
Kent and Tryniski, and OGrady and Edwards each split $1,200 prizes.

Stan Niemiec Youth Travelers

By Vince Albrecht
BOONTON, NJ - Ignited by Montville senior Karl Kattermanns 679
grenade, the Stan Niemiec Youth Travelers produced an awesome display of firepower, pulverizing Boontons pin decks with twelve 600+
sets and forty-one 200+ singles.
In his Boonton quartets narrow 2832-2828 triumph over Holiday II,
anchor Kattermann smoked the plastic-coats with games of 223-201255 and teammate Peter Hancock added 203-204. In the afternoons
tightest match, Holiday II salvaged game three, holding off the victors,
991-954 behind the combined efforts of Al Chamberlain 207, Justin
Milligan 197 and Tom Chamberlain 191.
Montvales talented young foursome caught fire after dropping the
opener to a tough North Arlington squad, putting together power numbers of 1032, 1012 to win the encounter, 2929-2862. Fourteen-year-old
Matt Russell sparked his players with a triple deuce 212-218-244-674,
the sessions second best threesome. Newcomer Pascack Valley freshman Henry Tipping overcame a sluggish start by pounding the pins into
submission with an impressive pair of 236 scores, Emerson sophomore
Nick Fabiano added a 216 and eleven-year-old Hammer Mahoney
closed with a 191 for Montvale. North Arlington posted fine numbers as
well, led by Vincent Amato 219-233-638, Tyler Keefe 251 and Haley
Hassan 214.
After falling 950-912 in game one, T-Bowl bounced back with two
strong games to secure five points in its clash with defending champion
Holiday I, 2844-2779. Wayne Hills sophomore Patrick Mayers 226-604
and Wayne Valley freshman Melody Morris 192 led the victors scoring
while Holiday I benefited from Paramus Catholic senior Lilly Sigonas
sterling 230-226-629, Alex McGuire 202-211 and Nick Cilento 202.
Lodi swamped Bowler City III with thundering threesomes from Chris
Navarro 241-237-665 and fourteen-year-old Steven Kropliak 224-222624. Pacing BC III were Bergenfield junior Nick Reyes 216-212-627,
Greg Khan 206, Nathan Tombo 202-193 and Cliffside Park freshman
Gianni Calzadilla 181. Bowler City I prevailed in its high-scoring battle
with Fair Lawn, edging the latter 917-910 in the finale to register a
sweep. Dumont sophomore Kyle Schellberg fired 208-224-213-645,
James Kane 211 and Janina Santoro 203-203 for the winners. Leading
Fair Lawn were thirteen-year-old Nick Greco 222-246-652, Steven
Plaszky 225 and Matt Myers 191. Rounding out the days action, Bowler
City II earned seven points from the vacancy behind Dean Edwards 221217-622 and Arielle Wallace 177.
