PART 3 EXECUTION
3.1

APPLICATION
A

Special measures must be taken to insure proper performance of the

system. Any moisture that skipped in or entrapped within the system
could cause poor adhesion, and must be removed from the substrate.
Bitumen chill quickly on a cold deck, so components of the system
must be installed rapidly, immediately mopped, well-embedded and
broomed. Bitumen must not be over-heated to compensate for rapid
cooling; hoses and buggies must be insulated.

3.2 STORAGE AND HANDLING OF MATERIALS

The Contractor or his subcontractor shall be duly responsible for the manner
of storage and handling of materials herein stated as follows:
A

Always stand roll goods on end.

Store roll goods in a dry place protected from sun and weather.

Roll out and cut mineral surface and asphalt coated roofing into sheets
and allow them to flatten before use.

Always place roll goods on clean floors or on platform in such a way as

to prevent damage and embedment of foreign matter in ends.

Handle roll goods with care. Dropping rolls on edges or ends

damages and deforms the felt, often preventing proper application.

Store cartons and drums of roofing asphalt on ends on level standing

to prevent flow from containers.

Store paper cartons of roofing asphalt protected from sun and weather
to prevent carton deterioration.

Store all roofing asphalt so it is protected from rain moisture absorbed

into the asphalt that can cause kettle foaming and poor application.

Store all materials containing solvents in dry, cool storage with proper
fire and safety precautions.
Store all emulsions in dry storage at temperature over 40 oF.

prescribed by manufacturers specifications. Over heating can cause
changes in physical properties and results in inadequate application.

Replace lids tightly on cans of material containing solvent or waterbase materials.

Do broom all felts manually, or hand mop immediately following each

felt layers installation.

Complete installation of all plies of roofing on same day. Do not install

roofing in phases.
