The purpose of this assignment is to:

Scenario:
LO1 Understand the relationship between organisational structure and culture
LO2 Understand different approaches to management and leadership
You are a freelance management consultant, advising and guiding different organisations on
culture, leadership and management. Your job requires you to study organisational theory
and evaluate the relevance of different management theories and its influence
management.

Assignment brief v1.1

The organisation you are consulting for is undergoing major structural change. The
Managing Director is concerned about his workers reaction to the change. He has asked you
to train the managers in the company on leadership skills, managing worker behaviour and
creating an organisation culture that will improve performance.
Submit your work in the form of a Report of 2000-2500 words through Turnitin and the
hard copy handed in to the lecturer on the due date. You are required to reference your
work according to the Harvard convention. Your report should have a Title Page, Table of
Contents, Introduction, Main Body, Conclusion and Reference List.
Produce a report that can be used to explore the following:
Task1:
Explain how management theories relate to, and influence the actual practice of
management in the real world.

Task2:
Evaluate the different approaches to management employed by different organisations.
Which organisational theories are most in evidence? How do they approach the functions of
management and managerial roles?

Task3:
Using diagrams, depict the different organisational structures that exist. Describe how the
culture of an organisation is related to its structure. Explain how the relationship between
an organizations structure and culture can impact on the performance of the business.

Task4:
Discuss how the factors associated with individual behaviour influence ones work. List out
measures that can be taken by managers to overcome resistance to change.

Task5
Compare the effectiveness of different leadership styles in different organisations,
observing how the leaders/managers use their power, authority and responsibility, whether
they delegate and how they deal with conflict.

Provide real life examples of companies / firms when comparing and contrasting
organisational structure, culture and leadership styles for Tasks 2, Task 3, and Task 5.

Task7:
Critically evaluate a real life example of organisational failure / loss, and explain how the
failure could have been avoided, by adopting appropriate organisational structure, culture
and leadership styles.
