Instruction for use of Badminton Umpire Score-Sheet
Pre-Match Details to be completed (if not completed by computer) once you are given the score-sheet,
before going on to the court.
Preliminaries
1. S, R server and receiver. Fill in when conducting toss, after the sides have exercised their choice. In
singles mark server only.
2. L, R starting of the players (left, right) when viewed from the umpires chair. Fill in when
conducting toss, after the side has exercised its choice of the end.
3. 0 mark against initial server and initial receiver at the start of each game.
4. Start time note the time when the umpire announces Play at the beginning of a match.
During Play
1. Write the new score in the next available box, in the row of the next servers name.
2. The players of the receiving side shall not change their respective service courts until they win a point on
their service. Thus, when a side loses the right to serve, the player who was serving at that time, shall
continue to be in the same service court from where he last served, until his side gains right to serve again
and wins a point.
e.g. In diagram 1 Tang served from right service court when the score was 4-0, he will continue to be in
the right service court until his side gets right to serve and the score becomes 6-7 when Tang will shift to
the left service court.
2. If the receiving side wins the point to make it service over, write their new score in the next available
box (last completed box is always the side serving).
3. Score levelled at 20-all draw diagonal line on the next available box.
4. If situations listed below occur, use the appropriate alphabet(s) into the next available box in front of the
appropriate player.
