Palabras-Chiave: Cuerpo Grotesco, Horror, Risa.
Abstract: The grostesque body in the nineteenth century. Between horror and
laughter. The grotesque is an aesthetic category that depends on the combination of
two essential elements: laughter and horror (or neighboring feelings to that such as
concern and disgust). That closeness has led to the horror, which has often used in
grotesque works the typical motives and resources from the fantastic literature, but
with a different effect. One of the most common ways concerning this relation
fantastic-grotesque is manifested through the deformation and/or the mutilation of
the human body. This article reviews some of these events in the narrative in the
nineteenth century.
Keywords: Grotesque Body, Horror, Laughter.
