In the last few decades, medical science has made rapid progress, with some of those
advancements being actually unbelievable. Medicinal and surgical treatments have
developed very fast and now almost everything has a cure. This means that diseases such as small pox, chickenpox, polio, plague, malaria etc. have now almost been eradicated. Also, open heart surgeries, organ transplants, brain surgeries, treatment of deadly diseases like, cancer, tuberculosis etc. have all become possible. By surgical operations, eyesight can now be given back to a visually challenged person and power of hearing to a hearing impaired person. Painless and even bloodless operations are carried out without difficulty and laser surgery enables surgeons to operate without ripping open the body. In what concerns genetics, the advances might have influenced our lives forever. For example, some diseases could be prevented by detecting people/plants/animals that are genetically prone to certain hereditary diseases inevitable. Also, infectious diseases can be treated by implanting genes that code for antiviral proteins specific to each antigen. Animals and plants can be 'tailor made' to show desirable characteristics. Genes could also be manipulated in trees for example, to absorb more CO 2 and reduce the threat of global warming.Genetics could increase genetic diversity, and produce more variant alleles which could also be crossed over and implanted into other species. It is possible to alter the genetics of wheat plants to grow insulin for example. There are major advantages in the development of agricultura and the main ones are crop yields and consequently profit increase. Yields of primary crops such as rice and wheat increased dramatically, the price of food declined, the rate of increase in crop yields generally kept pace with population growth, and the number of people who consistently go hungry was slightly reduced. This boost in food production has been due mainly to scientific advances and new technologies, including the development of new crop varieties, the use of pesticides and fertilizers, and the construction of large irrigation systems. This also means that a country primarily focused on modern agriculture rarely faces a shortage and does not have to rely on imported sources for food production. With agriculture they can be self sufficient in crops, raw materials for clothing, livestock and dairy products. What is more, with the growing shortage of food in the world an emphasis is being laid now on enhancing agricultural production in order to keep food items at an affordable level for the world populations.
