01. INTRODUCTION
01.01 BACKGROUND
State Bank of India has always recognized the importance of integrating
Information Technology in all its operations. It started in 1960s with initial forays
in the area of reconciliation and continued through 1990s with the
computerization of individual branches culminating in computerization of all
branches through Universal Computerization. Once again, SBI felt the need to
upgrade its operations to incorporate the latest advances in Information
Technology. This computerization of SBI, done under the Core Banking Solution,
has had a major impact on all spheres of banking.
01.01.02 The single biggest achievement of implementing the Core Banking
Solution is that each customer of SBI is truly the customer of the Bank and not just
the customer of the Branch, where his/her account is maintained. He/she can go
to an SBI Branch anywhere in the country and perform a transaction. This is
possible as the entire Customer Database is centrally located at the Central Data
Centre (CDC) and can be accessed by any branch on CBS.
01.02 Key Features of the System
01.02.01: 24X7 BANKING
As a result of implementing Core Banking solution, most of the facilities being
offered by SBI, are available to customers 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Customers can transact their business using multiple channels such as ATMs,
Internet Banking, Phone Banking and Mobile Banking.
These transactions
conducted through various delivery channels are updated in the CDC in real time.
01.02.02: ANYWHERE BANKING
Customers can avail of banking services across the bank and Channel network
irrespective of location where their account is maintained as SBI has achieved
100% networking of all its delivery channels.
01.02.03: Integration with Strategic Sectors:
Core Banking integrates all strategic sectors of Banking such as Trade Finance,
Treasury, Asset-Liability Management and Corporate Balance Sheet. As a result,
the information related to these areas is centrally available for use or reference.
01.02.04: Strengthening MIS, DSS and EIS:
Core Banking Solution is more than just a transaction processing system. It
provides updated data for generating various reports for Management Information
System (MIS), facilitates Decision Support System (DSS), and Executive Information
System (EIS). As data is located on CDC, branches and administrative offices can
concurrently avail updated data when required.
Each user will be allotted one User No. and Password for logging in. The User No.
and the Password for all employees is allotted at the Central Data Centre (CDC),
Core Banking Project, CBD Belapur, Mumbai.
The User No. is the PF Index number of the employee. The Password allotted
initially is 111111 (Six times 1). In addition to User No. and Password, Branch
code (5-digit code) and terminal number are to be entered in the sign-on screen.
The terminal numbers are advised to all the users on the take-on day.
Please use the TAB key or mouse to move from one field to the other.
On entering the assigned user No., password, branch code and terminal number,
please click on the TRANSMIT button or press Enter.
When the user logs in for the first time, the following screen is displayed and the
user is forced to change the password. This is a security feature.
Enter the old Password and a new password, of your own choice. With effect from
01-06-2007, a complex password system has been introduced which implies that the
password must comprise of the following characters:

alpha character, one numeric character and one special character is compulsory.
2. Users are required to change their passwords once in 30 days in CBS at present.

If the Bankmaster account number is having alpha characters (such as 01G etc.),
please go to the menu: General Enquiries Old-New Account / Customer
Number. Give the 5-digit branch code, old account number, and type sequence
number as 1. Please click on Transmit. Now the new account number in Core
Banking is seen against New CIF/Account number field. Similarly, if you wish to
know the new account number in Core for other branch Bankmaster account

This is important so that no one else can use your id for putting through
transactions when you are away. When you return for work, you need to
give the password so that you can continue to use the system.
Please do not use the close button on right-hand top corner when you are
logged into core banking.
Whenever you have to Transmit, or Search, please click only once and wait
for the system to respond.
Please do not download documents etc. from State Bank Times or other
sites during peak working hours in the branch, as it will affect the
processing speed for conducting transactions in Core Banking.
