Business Plan Competition

NASCON continues its tradition of encouraging entrepreneurial spirit with this years
Business Plan Competition, a platform for the energetic youth to exhibit their business ideas
and get them judged practically by the industry experts. Considering the current economic
and environmental scenario, the competition focuses on Social Entrepreneurship as the
theme for this season. The NASCON Business Plan Competition will provide the opportunity
for the youth to have their business plans critically assessed by industry connoisseurs. The
participants will not only benefit from the experts advice, but will also get the chance to
showcase their professional skills and network with them. At NASCON Business Plan
Competition, everyone is a gainer. Not only the winners are awarded and given recognition,
every participant receives a certificate which adds value to their CV. They also develop
confidence, communication and networking skills, which continue to benefit them throughout
their professional and personal lives.
Event Rules and procedure:
1. One member from each team will present an elevator pitch of 60 second. Eight teams will
be short-listed from these.
2. Registration fee per team is PKR 2500.
3. Short listed teams each have 15 minutes to present their venture plan and additional 5-10
minutes to entertain questions from judges. No team should spend more than 30 minutes.
Five teams will be selected for the final round.
4. Teams should have at least 2 or maximum 5 presenters. However, all team members are
encouraged to take part in the Q & A session.
5. All team members must be University Students.
6. The evaluation will be based on the quality of presentation, quality of written business
plan, and on the viability of the proposed venture.
7. In all matters concerning the competition, the decision of the NASCON Management will
be final and binding on all concerned.
8. The NASCON Management reserves the right to modify the rules without prior notice.
9. The complete registration requires the following documents to be submitted before the
deadline.
- Registration Form
- Reference Letter
- Registration Fee
10. The last date for the submission of entry form is April 2014.
11. All participants must submit a Reference Letter signed by the academic officer of the
institute to identify them as CURRENTLY enrolled undergraduate student of the institute.
Participants will be required to submit this reference letter by hand, post or fax.
12. Registration fee is non-refundable.

Marketing Plan Competition


Location: Fast Islamabad
Venue: MEDC (Conference Hall)
Length: 11 Hours
NASCON Marketing Plan Competition 2014 is coming up with the theme of Re-Branding
Pakistan. This platform will provide an opportunity to come up with the most creative and
innovative ideas to Re-brand or to introduce a new brand in Pakistans any industry, service
or product and develop its marketing plan. The basic purpose behind this theme is that how
students in Pakistan by using the power of ideas want to re-brand Pakistan.
Event Rules and procedure:
1. Each team will consist of 2-5 members.
2. Registration fee per team is 2500.
3. Team members must be University / College Students.
4. There will be 3 rounds conducted in the competition.
5. All teams are required to send a summary of 100 words about their ideas so as to Rebrand Pakistan, along with the title of the product or service industry they want to Re-Brand.
6. In the First Round, each team will present its idea and brief marketing plan for 5 minutes.
7. After First round, half of the teams will be eliminated.
8. In Second round, the remaining half teams will elaborate their idea further for 10 minutes.
9. After second round, half of the remaining teams will be eliminated.
10. In Third round, the remaining teams will be given 30-40 minutes to elaborate their full
plan.
11. Evaluation will be based on the quality of presentation, quality of the material presented
and on the viability of the proposed venture.

Ideal Candidate
Location: Fast Islamabad
Venue: MEDC (Seminar Hall)

Length: 8+8 Hours

The focus of Ideal Candidate will be on the communication skills of students i.e. how
affectively they can brand themselves in front of the interviewer. Education, knowledge or technical
skills will have nominal value. Many competitions are present in the market that test students on these
skills but ideal candidate will not focus on that. There will be questions to judge basic concepts of
participants but they will not be the main testing factor. Its main value adding factor lies on the fact
that it will enable students to test themselves and see if they are prepared for going on a job interview
or not and what areas they should improve. After going through the simulation, judges and the
participants themselves will be able to evaluate the communication areas they are weak in.
Participants will improve themselves in those areas and it will train the students to showcase
themselves impressively on the real job interview day.
Ideal Candidate hunt from FAST will start before NASCON (tentatively one week before).
Screening will be done at every stage and the rounds will include: CV/ Resume writing, Cover letter
writing, Quiz with typical interview questions, Interview by panel of judges. Beneficial workshops by
judges will be given relating CV writing, how to brand yourself, interview tactics during the whole
process. Shortlisted students from FAST will then participate at NASCONs 2nd day of Competition.
Individuals that applied from other universities will be accommodated and shortlisted on NASCON
Ideal Candidate 1st Day. On the second day of competition exclusive judges from the industry will be
called to interview the desirable candidate from every departments and based on their judgment ideal
candidates will be chosen. One proposed idea was to have live coverage of the dreaded interview
board room to create hype. Judges can in the end have a session with the participants and guide the
students on how they can make themselves competitive for the industry (Career Counseling) and on
what communication areas they should improve on.

Event Rules and guidelines:


1. Attire for interviews will contribute in final assessment.
2. Participants should prepare their CVs/ Resume for mock interviews.
3. Participants must be College/University students.
4. Participants will apply individually (There is no team).
5. The complete registration requires the following documents to be submitted before the deadline.

6. The registration fee is PKR 600/-.
7. The last date for the submission of entry form is UNSPECIFIED.
8. It will be assumed that you will be giving an interview for an internship. According to your
preferred specialty. With your CV, add your preference for the example for BBA department it can be
Human Resource Management, Finance, Marketing or Accounting.
9. Dress formally for interviews as if you are actually going for the real one.
10. If candidate is found doing inappropriate act by any faculty member or NASCON14 official he
will be disqualified from event.

AD MAD
The main goal is to enhance the marketing skills of participants taking part in this event. The
event aims at gathering a talent pool from different universities and colleges of Pakistan. AD
MAD will help them in providing a platform to showcase their talent and aptitude for
creativity. Furthermore, it will help the participants to get some exposure and will give them
opportunity to engage with other innovative and creative teams.
Event Rules and guidelines:
1. Each team will consist of 2-5 members from the same institution.
2. All members of the team should be of the same institution.
3. All teams should bring their own cameras and equipment with them.
4. Participants should currently be undergraduate students.
5. All team members should be present at the event.
Event procedure and judging criteria:
1. AD MAD will consist of two rounds.
2. In the first round, each team will have to create an ad on Public Service Message. They
will submit their ads on the first day of event, two hours before the AD MAD event starts.
The time limit will be of 2 minutes.
3. Also the team will give a presentation using slides about their advertisement. They will
explain their concept behind the ad they made in first round. The time limit will be of 3
minutes.
4. Top 5 Teams will qualify for the second round.
5. In the second round all the qualified teams will be given one day to make their ads on the
products assigned to them. The ad should be of less than 1 and a half minutes.
6. All the ads will be judged on the basis of:
- Concept of the Ad
- Originality
- Video Quality
- Editing
- Creativity

Accounting Guru
Location: Fast Islamabad
Venue: Ground Floor N-01, N-02, N-03, N-04
Length: 4 Hours
NASCON is a name that requisite no introduction: it stands tall as the largest National
Students convention attracting an average annual traffic of 5 thousand participants and 4
thousand students. FAST National University Islamabad Campus - home to this years
NASCON14 provides yet another golden opportunity to the Management and Business
Schools all over the world to participate in Accounting Guru 2014: This is an event which is
an initiative taken by a panel of best business leaders, and it aims to boast the talent of
Accounting. Participants will be provided with best ever experience of Accounting
knowledge, understanding, and learning.
Event Rules and procedure:
1. Students will be judged on 4 knowledge skills: Financial Accounting; Cost &
Management Accounting; Corporate Accounting (Standards); Accounting Decision Making.
2. In 1st round, all the teams will be given a Question paper which will be the mix of
MCQs and Short Answer questions.
3. One team can have maximum 3 participants in it.
4. Those who will be short listed for 2nd round will be given a complex accounting case. All
the teams will be required to prescribe accounting treatment.
5. After proposing the solution for the case, teams will be called to defend their proposed
solution in front of Judges.
6. Faculty mentors (if they accompany a team) will not be allowed to interact with their
competing teams during the discussion time.
7. Each competing team will be allotted a discussion place and will be expected to discuss
the accounting case within their respective team, without using the internet or mobile phones
or interacting with any other competing team.
8. Teams will be allowed to compile their key points on a paper on all the given case
(Accounting treatment) questions, which they will be allowed to take with them in the
Accounting Guru competition venue for help, along with their Accounting treatment defence
copies.
9. Registration fee (Rs.1500) is NOT REFUBDABLE.

Business Case Simulation


Location: Fast Islamabad
Venue: Auditorium
Length: 5 Hours
NASCON is a name that requisites no introduction: it stands tall as the largest students
convention boasting an average annual traffic of 4,000 students. FAST National University
Islamabad Campus - home to this years NASCON14 provides yet another golden
opportunity to the Business Schools all over Pakistan to participate in The Business Case
Simulation Competition 2014: An event among others that, since the past couple of years, has
diligently endeavored to facilitate excellence, upgrade awareness and enrich the
understanding of the participants with real-life management and challenges through the
development of business cases and simulations. Over 45 Universities from across the country
engage in the Business Case Simulation Competition in a spectacular manifestation of skill,
creativity and corporal acumen.
Event Rules and procedure:
1. A maximum of 4 participants are allowed per team.
2. Registration fee per event is PKR 2500.
3. Students will be provided with the case study and the list of case discussion questions on
their arrival to the event venue on the event day (at 9 am).
4. Each competing team will be allotted a discussion room and will be expected to discuss
the case study within their respective team, without using the internet or mobile phones or
interacting with any other competing team.
5. Faculty mentors (if they accompany a team) will not be allowed to interact with their
competing teams during the discussion time.
6. Teams will be allowed to compile their key points on a paper on all the given case
discussion questions, which they will be allowed to take with them in the case simulation /
competition venue for help, along with their case study copies.
7. Case discussion time will end at 2 pm; there will be a lunch break and the Case
Simulation Competition will start at 3 pm sharp, ending at 5:30 pm.
8. Results will be declared at 6 pm; the first three teams according to the competent event
jury will be given the 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes respectively.
9. Registration fee is not refundable.
Judging Criteria:
In the NASCON Business Case Simulation, each competing team is expected to devise the
most effective and efficient solution (in their understanding) to an intensive case study
pertaining to a real-time business problem or dilemma, which is formally discussed by all
teams in a group setting.
Each team will be evaluated on four key parameters: 1. Strength of the argument.
2. Depth in understanding of the case study.
3. Innovative suggestions.
4. Communication skills and group chemistry.
