Course Synopsis
This course extends the knowledge of animation production through the hands-on
experiences. Students will be exposed to a practical approach of developing 3D animation
using 3D animation software. Students will be prepared with skills and knowledge for highscale animation production so that they can understand the huge competition and
challenges in the animation industry.

Course Objectives
The objectives of this course are to:
Apply skills of developing 3D animation using 3D animation software.
Identify correct techniques for animation production to ensure the entire production
can be done correctly.
Practice animation project by applying all knowledge and techniques of computer
animation production.
Prepare physical and mental for a large scale production so that students can prepare
themselves to compete in the industry.
Discuss leadership and team-based skills relevant to digital animation development.

Course Requirements & Policies

You are expected to fulfill the following requirements of the course to obtain a grade:
>

Forum
The role of forum in learning management system is to allow students to have a group
discussion with a academic facilitator and other members of subject study. Each
member is required to participate in the forum. Messages can be posted, read and
responded to by any members at any time. For group participation, the marks on the
forum will be equal across all members of a particular group; otherwise assessment
based on the individual assessment is applied. The member of a group who does not
participate will not be given any marks. The forum requires professional discussion and
proper use of English language is important.

>

Assignment 1 (30%)
You will be examined on your level of understanding and knowledge acquired based on
modeling skills using Autodesk Maya. The students must attempt all questions on
individual basis and submit to the lecturer based on the given deadline. Marks of the
assignment are determined by the quality of the answers and penalty will be imposed for
late submission. Answers from the exercises must reflect the originality thought of the
student.

>

Assignment 2 (30%)
The assignment 2 is the culmination of what has been learned during class activities
prior to the examination of your skills in animation using Autodesk Maya. The project
encompasses the study of existing animation concepts and animation techniques we had
learned during the semester.

>

Final Examination (40%)

You will be examined on your level of understanding and knowledge acquired in this
course. It covers the history theories and animation concepts as well as animation
methodology techniques.

>

Course Policies
o Academic Honesty is required from all members of the learning community. Hence,
the university will not tolerate cheating or plagiarism on tests, examinations,
papers or other course assignments. Students who engage in such dishonesty
may be given failing grades or expelled from the university.
o

Participation policy: students are required to demonstrate good record of

participation in the online activities. Marks can be deducted for students who
demonstrate poor participation.

o Assessment: Students are responsible to be aware of the assessment dates as

announced by the Academic Facilitator. There will be no replacement or make up
test if the student misses the assessment day and zero marks will be given.
o Late submission: all assignments must be submitted by the deadline and failing to
do so, some marks will be deducted.
