For kids, decorate with their favorite color. Make tissuepaper flowers to place on your tree. All you need is tissue
paper and pipe cleaners.
For a tree that will help you remember the good times, hang
mementos that you've collected throughout the year instead
of traditional, often expensive ornaments. Choose knickknacks from family vacations, party pictures, favors from
weddings or showers, or kids' arts and crafts projects. Hang
holiday greeting cards from family and friends on your tree.
To turn these trinkets into ornaments, glue or attach ornament
hangers to each item. Your tree will be a reminder of the fun
shared throughout the year.

Empty Bowls event held at

Kennedy Middle School
The art and family and consumer education departments at Kennedy Middle
School teamed up to stage the ninth annual Empty Bowls evening at the school
Nov. 11.
Teachers Dawn Christensen and Ann
Bauer de Ruiz said that approximately
100 bowls were created by eighth grade
students in the schools multi-media classes
for the event.
Christensen explained that the bowls
are a reminder that there will always be
hunger in the world.
The soup is a reminder that there is
hungry people in the world and were serving a simple meal for people that are hungry, but we want people to remember that
there are always hungry people in the
world,Christensen said.
Teacher Stephanie Steinert said five
types of soup from the family and consumer education classes at the schools
were made for attendees to purchase.
Minestrone, loaded baked potato, chicken
pot pie, chicken tortilla and tomato tortellini created by approximately 120 eighth

grade students were served during the

event. Several teachers volunteered with
setup.
Christensen said this is the 10th year
the Empty Bowls event is being held at
Kennedy Middle School. Funds raised
from the event support the St. Gabriel/St.
Boniface Food Pantry while a few funds
are also provided to the Food for
Today/Hunger Task Force program.
The first Empty Bowls program was
held at a Michigan high school in 1990 as
way to help families who were experiencing food insecurity. Art classes at that
school created the bowls and then sold
soup as a fund raiser. Kennedy Middle
School and Christensen heard about the
Empty Bowls project and was inspired to
involve her students in an multi-media art
class. That led to the first Empty Bowls
event being held at the school in 2004.
Christensen added that the sale of
bowls would remain open for a few days
after the event for people who couldnt
attend that evening.

Falls holds on to top Nicolet

After jumping out to an early lead
against Nicolet Nov. 22, Menomonee
Falls rallied in the final seconds to turn
back a Knights comeback to win 3736.
The Indians opened the game with
a 10-1 run and increased the lead to
17-4 after Karly Volz hit a free throw at
the 7:154 mark of the second quarter.
Nicolet cut in Menomonee Falls lead
slightly but still trailed 23-13 at halftime.
Nicolet started its comeback in the
third quarter, outscoring Menomonee
Falls 6-2 in the final six minutes. The
Knights then limited Menomonee Falls
to two points in the first three minutes of
the fourth quarter while scoring six
points to take a 32-31 lead at the 5:07
mark. Volz put Menomonee Falls back
in the lead with a three point basket at
the 3:40 mark to give Menomonee
Falls a 34-32 lead. The teams traded
the lead until Volz converted a free
throw with 6.6 seconds remaining to
seal the victory.
Afterward, Menomonee Falls
Coach Craig Amundson said fouls
caught up with his team in the second
half, as some of the leading scorers
were on the bench.
Amundson said an adjustment suggested by an assistant coach of placing
the guards in the bottom corners of the
court is what opened space for Volzs
three point shot toward the end of the
game.
Ive got to credit the assistant
coaches for coming up with some good
adjustments as well while we talking,
Amundson said.
While the game was only the second for Menomonee Falls, the team
had two players out due to concussions
while a third player was out with an

ankle injury.
Menomonee Falls was to play D.C.
Everest at the Brookfield Central
Shootout Nov. 28. At the same tournament, Hamilton will play Green Bay
Preble at 3:15 p.m. Nov. 29 .
Germantown 67, Brookfield
East 48: Germantown outscored East
in three of four quarters in their Nov.
21season opener. Kenzie Schmitz led
Germantown with 20 points.
Germantown will return to the court

Dear Dr. Winter, I have spaces between my teeth

and I have always been self-conscious about my smile.
I am a college student so I am financially limited. Is
there anything that you can do to help me with my
problem?
Dear John, it can often be intimidating to go to a
dentist when you dont know all of your options but we
would love to see you for a no charge consultation. If
your teeth are in a good position but you simply have
some spacing we may be able to use white fillings
called bonding to close your gaps. This may all be
done in one or two visits and can often last 5-7 years or
longer. Then when you are in a different economic
position we could replace the bonding with porcelain
veneers. These veneers are thin white porcelain pieces
that cover your tooth and can often change the shape
and color of your teeth resulting in a much prettier
smile.
If you have a jaw that is too large for the size teeth
you have, then perhaps crowns may be needed to try
and improve the overall height and width of your teeth.
Again transitional bonding can help determine what
the best solution is for your situation. If orthodontics
could solve your problem this also can be discussed. It
is always better to move teeth to close spaces then to
add materials that will eventually require replacement
assuming your tooth size is acceptable.
Dear Dr. Winter, could you tell me about the
difference between Snap-On Dentures and miniimplant dentures? I am limited financially but I cant
stand my dentures! They pop up during eating and
talking all the time and I need some way to stabilize
them. I read the testimonials on your website and
watched all the videos and I am convinced these
options will help me.
Dear Peter, regular sized implants are always
preferable to mini-implants. That is because there is a
greater surface area on larger implants and they hold
on to your bone better. Also traditional implants that
are 3.0 mm in diameter or larger can have the tops or
chimneys changed in order to UPGRADE to a fixed
bridge in the future. Mini-implants do not have an
upgrade path. That means that if you decide to invest
more time, effort and money in the future to have teeth

Drs. Richard and Bruce Winter

that stay in all the time, the mini-implants would
need to be removed and larger implants placed.
The article on Upgradeable Dentistry
explains this concept on the website:
www.hamptondentalassociates.com where you can
see that any implants will improve your situation!
The ability to use larger implants will allow us to use
larger attachments that have the ability to hold your
prosthesis even firmer then the mini-implants. Both
choices will be way better then using denture
adhesive! I invite you and our readership to come in
for a free consultation to see if Snap-On dentures or
Mini-Implant dentures are right for you! My goal as
a dentist is to help everyone to get rid of their
dentures and move back to fixed teeth. These two
choices are wonderful ways to begin that journey.
Sincerely,
Richard B. Winter D.D.S. M.A.G.D. D.I.C.O.I. D.A.B.O.I./I.D.

KML loses season opener to DSHA

BY THOMAS J. MC KILLEN
MANAGING EDITOR
A new season began with a new challenge for the Kettle Moraine Lutheran girls
basketball team.
The Chargers lost to Divine Savior Holy
Angels (DSHA) 52-48 in the Nov. 21 opener. The Dashers featured Arike
Ogunbowale, a highly recruited player
who earlier this fall accepted a basketball
scholarship to Notre Dame. Ogunbowale
scored 36 of the Dashers 52 points
"We took this game on knowing it
would be a great challenge for us, and it
was. I thought we learned a ton about our
team," Kettle Moraine Lutheran Coach
Jason Walz said. "We learned who is going
to fill in for the kids we lost (from) last year.
I think we got a glimpse of the type of team
we're going to be."
Last year the Chargers finished the season with a Division 3 championship. Walz
said that the team's focus is on the season
ahead.

"We didn't talk much about defending a

championship. That was last year, and it's a
new group of girls looking for a new set of
experiences, and it's a new schedule," he
said.
In the game, the Dashers started with a
early lead, as two free throws by
Ogunbowale gave DSHA an 11-4 lead
with 1:33 left in the first quarter. But the
Chargers answered with a scoring run of
their own, as a layup by Lindsey Soderback
tied the score at 13-13. Mikayla Voigt and
Sharla Boelke then converted layups and
the free throws afterward to give Kettle
Moraine Lutheran a 19-13 lead with 4:21
left in the second quarter. DSHA rallied and
both teams were tied a 23-23 at halftime.
The Chargers scored the first six points
of the third quarter and held the lead
throughout most of the second half. But a
three-point basket by Rachel Heinrich gave
the Dashers a 42-41 lead with 3:33 left in
the game. A layup by Alyssa Shipley tied
the score at 45-45 a few minutes later but
Taylor Drost of DSHA converted a three
point basket in response as the Dashers
held on the to lead for the rest of the game.
Mikayla Voigt led Kettle Moraine

CHRISTMAS OPEN HOUSE

For your convenience, we have extended our hours for the first week.

In anticipation of the new 4H year and in conjunction with National 4H week, the Jackson
Explorers 4H Clubs newly elected officers met at the Jackson Dairy Queen earlier this fall to
set goals and plan their year. Washington County 4H prides itself in its youth leadership program. Members each contributed ideas and determined their number one goal was to make
their monthly meetings fun and welcoming to new families. Also scheduled were plans to serve
the Jackson community better and to promote 4H. The Jackson Explorers 4H Club meets the
third Tuesday of each month at 7p.m. at the Jackson Town Hall.

7, the Washington County Humane
Society will be holding its annual Festival
of Trees event. The Washington County

Choice awards. Attendees can also enjoy
refreshments from the caf, and visit the
beautiful holiday boutique filled with
crafts from artists throughout southeastern
Wisconsin.
Hours for the Festival are Dec. 6 from

Cost is $6 for adults, $4 for senior citizens

Meet Lamb Chop! This amazing girl was rescued

though all she's known was a life of being bred

has a happy face. Lamb Chop came in with awful
teeth, ears, and several mammary tumors. Since being at WCHS this girl
has had a dental procedure in which ALL of her teeth needed to be

Tip of the Week: Theres no place like home The best strategy, of course, is to keep your pets
indoors during inclimate weather. Outdoor cats are especially susceptible to hazards like frostbite,
getting lost, or being exposed to diseases. If you dont want to be outside, your pet probably doesnt
want to be, either.
