Project Title: Google Classroom implementation and Literacy Design Collaboration integration Description
Google Classroom implementation and tech team leadership
The last couple of years our school has used Edmodo as a social media tool to encourage communication between students and teachers. However, there were a few problems when using Edmodo as an instructional resources. Many teachers hardly used it so there was inconsistencies from class to class. Students would forget their passwords, lose access and take significant class time getting new ones. After discussing this over with our schools tech committee Ive decided to implement a plan that would use Google Classroom as tool for teachers and aid others in the use of technology as well. The tech committee feels that using Google Classroom is more robust and has more to offer. This would be an attempt to replace Edmodo School wide because our staff already utilizes Google Apps for education. The goal is to provide teachers with the training and resources they can use to begin using Google Classroom and to support staff with using technology in instruction and assessment. Since this is a school wide initiative it will have a universal impact within our community. Therefore, intended audiences include teachers, students, administrators and parents. To begin using Google Classroom as an instructional resource I have decided to get familiar with it through research and use. After this is accomplished, I plan on implementing what I have learned and passing it on to others in planned activities. The planned activities are aimed at providing practical information and resources to teachers about Google Classroom. Since I cannot currently get any official Professional Development time with staff, I plan on conducting a set of workshops. The workshops will cover topics ranging from basic use to more advanced use. For those who cannot attend workshops I plan on creating a screencast tutorial. This would provide an asynchronous tool for teachers to access on their own time. To assess the success of Google Classroom a survey will be provided to teachers. The survey being conducted will include the effectiveness of the workshop and tutorial. This would be the best approach to gain unbiased feedback about the overall effectiveness and success of the implementation of Google Classroom as an instructional resource. To asses my role in supporting teachers in technology I will gauge my effectiveness through ability to resolve issues. Literacy Design Collaborative (LDC)
Deliverables
ILT Competencies
Writing scores on standardized tests have stagnated across our district.
Due to this, our district is investing in the Literacy Design Collaborative (LDC). The LDC is a framework that provides teaches with tools and resources to create literacy rich assignments to improve student reading and writing. Since our 8th Grade Social Studies focuses on content literacy, we decided to be leaders of the LDC pilot program at our school. The LDC has provided us with the opportunity to refine our practice, improve student literacy and teach others in our school regarding district plans and policies. The goal is to begin steps that would lead to the integration of LDC tools and resources into our current curriculum. The audience for the LDC leadership include teachers and students. To being process, we will attend trainings in which we will receive resources and collaborate with others. We will also hold weekly meetings to discuss the framework of LDC integration. Since piloting the LDC we chose to measure our success through the creation of the unit planners and mini-tasks. We will also compare student writing samples to further target and plan learning experiences. Project Report Screen Casts/Tutorials Survey LDC Unit Planner & Mini-tasks 6.
