Hydraulic Introduction

COMMITTED TO SUSTAINABLE PRODUCTIVITY

We stand by our responsibilities towards our customers,
towards the environment and the people around us.
We make performance stand the test of time. This is what
we call Sustainable Productivity.

OBJECTIVES

You will know the Atlas Copco Scooptram ST14, from the
inside and the outside, including the hydraulic & electrical
systems, basic maintenance routines and troubleshooting.

Flow

The open center hydraulic system will always deliver maximum flow meaning great losses in some cases
The load sensing system only delivers the required flow for the actual load which means almost no losses

HYDRAULICS INTRODUCTION

Pressure

Losses

Load 1

Delta P (PLS)

Load 2
Max Qpump

Flow
The pump will deliver the pressure demanded by the highest load (Load 1) and add a compensating
pressure called Delta P (20-25 Bar) to maintain a constant pressure drop across the valve spool
and to compensate for any pressure drop during delivery to e.g. the hydraulic cylinder
Pump pressure = The pressure needed for the actual load + Delta P (PLS) pressure

HYDRAULICS INTRODUCTION
The load sensing hydraulic system

Load Sensing system

VS

Open Center system

The pump in a load sensing system only deliver

the flow requested by the function (variable pump)

The pump in a open center system always deliver

full flow (fixed pump)

A load sensing (LS) system has a closed center in the

main valve

A open center system has (as the name says)

an open center in the main valve

The pump in a load sensing (LS) system maintains a

low stand-by pressure (or delta P) when no function is
used and don't deliver any flow (closed center)

The pump in an open center system circulates the

oil through the valve (because of the open center)
and back to tank when no function is used

In a load sensing system you control the speed (flow)

for the function with the lever

In a open center system you control the pressure for

the function with the lever

OPEN CENTER

VS.

Pump pressure regulated as a function of the load

HOW TO SET PRESSURE

Step 1

Turn the LS-cutoff pressure valve screw 2 (two) turns clockwise to

open the LS-cutoff pressure valve .

HOW TO SET PRESSURE

Step 2

Put a pressure gauge on PX

Turn out both adjustments screw 2 turn on VPLS2
Start engine, run on idle:
Adjust the stand by pressure on VPLS1 to 20 bar 1

Adjust the stand by pressure on VPLS2 to 23 bar 1

Activate boom down (all the way down to boom stop and hold it there)
Adjust the cutoff pressure on VPLS1 to 285 bar 2
Adjust the cutoff pressure on VPLS2 to 290 bar 2

HOW TO SET PRESSURE

Step 3

(Put a Pman on B411:B on loadframe)

Start engine, run on idle:
Activate boom down (all the way down to boom stop and hold it there)
Adjust the LS-cutoff pressure valve screw to 280bar 2

WARNING/NOTE
Block wheels before setting brake pressure

Put a pressure gauge on B410 port.
