Learning Activities/Procedures - Explanation of teaching strategies

Class Set-up:
1). We will pick up from last week's lesson on The Book Thief. We will have the student
give a description of the book and summarize what she read from last week.
2). We will then present a list of vocabulary terms for the excerpt before the student begins
reading.
3). The student will then begin reading the new excerpt from the novel. At the end of
various large bodies of text, we will stop the student and have her jot down a few notes
about her reading. She will also provide a verbal summary of what she writes down.
4). The student will continue reading and will be corrected progressively on any speaking
errors. We will also make sure the student doesn't have any questions or guide her
comprehension as needed.
5). Since it's a long chapter, the focus of the lesson will be on her comprehension and her
note-taking activity.

6). We will have her read through her notes once she has completed the chapter.

Closure: At the end of the lesson, we will discuss what was read and the student will read
her notes aloud.
o Discussion: Our discussion will include the student's oral summary of the chapter
and her review of her notes taken during reading.

5.

Instructional Resources and Technology: DocCam.

6.

Formative Assessment: We will assess the student for understanding during reading. We will also
guide and correct her pronunciation as she reads aloud. We will check for comprehension through
her written notes.
