Waste energy and raw material source of the future

Due to environmental and social pressures waste is increasingly seen as a potential source
for the recovery and recycling of raw materials worldwide.
Using waste specifically for biogas production, has been a success story for many years:
On the one hand the harmful effects of the fermentable fraction of waste in the environment
can be avoided and on the other hand, a renewable energy source can be obtained.

Finsterwalder environmental technology (FITEC)

Since the construction and commissioning of its own
food waste biogas plant in year 2000 Finsterwalder is part
of this story.
For more than 14 years we have successfully designed, built
and maintained biogas projects for organic waste treatment
with our team of engineers and scientists on both the national
and international stage.
If you are working on an energy from organic waste project,
we are happy to support you in all stages of the project.

PLANNING

AD-plants by Finsterwalder environmental technology

Currently FITEC has designed AD facilities with a range in processing capacities from
10,000 to 100,000 tonnes per year. A FITEC system can process a wide range of feedstock:
Foodwaste of restaurants
Residues from the other food and feed industry
Source separated organic waste the residential sector
The organic fraction from residual waste treatment

Our services in the planning phase include

Analysis and assessment of the proposed waste
For wastes with impurity fractions, selection and, where appropriate,
testing the processing technology
Selection of machinery and system integration
Energy and mass balances

FITEC offers industry leading advantages

To assess the fermentability of the waste, we do not rely on simple tables. With the help
of our BIOTOP software we create a comprehensive simulation of the total biogas process.
We can say from the start which waste, in combination with which plant technology,
enables a stable biogas production and what is the cost effectiveness of the proposed plant.
At key points during AD process engineering, we offer you particularly robust technologies
utilised in our biogas plants that have proven reliability robustness during many years of
operation. Examples include separation technology, systems for removal of contaminations,
pasteurizer systems, measurement and automation technology.
At FITEC our goal is to create the conditions for a sustainable, reliable system operation.

Administrative and visitor area

Feeding via pasteurizer system

Digesters

Gas storage

CHP Unit and transformer station

Emergency flare

Digestate storage

A focus on reliability
In all Finsterwalder plants the components that are of critical
importance for the reliability of plant operation and thus for the
later economic success, are at the center of attention.
A key factor for success is efficient separation of the non-fermentable
fractions of the waste both in the pre-treatment as well as in the process.

DEVELOPMENT

Finsterwalder special components

Separation into digestable and non-digestable fractions
To separate waste into a digestable (liquid) and a non-digestable (solid) fraction, the hydraulic
separation press of Finsterwalder Environmental Technology is used.
The patented separation process offers many advantages:
The separation presses can handle almost any waste material with a sufficiently
high content of digestable substances and therefore offer the greatest investment security.
Due to the large ball passage even large impurities such as stones (< 120mm in diameter)
are no problem.
After pressing, the fermentation material can be pasteurized in accordance with
EC Regulation 1069:2009 (particle size < 12 mm).
The water balance is exceptionally good, with a very high total solids processing capacity.

Pasteurization / Digester feeding

The pasteurization module of Finsterwalder Environmental Technology typically consists of a doubletube heat exchanger, storage tanks and a positive displacement pump. Advantages of this system:
Meets No. 1069/2009, the requirements of the EC Regulation
Pasteurization of the input material just-in-time
Construction is almost non-clogging, easy to clean and maintain
System can be directly used to feed a digester
Integrated continuous measurement and documentation of pasteurization temperature

Discharge sinking particles (grit removal)

After pre-treatment the substrate still carrys substances that settle in the digester (e.g. stones,
sand, bone fragments, pieces of glass, shells, ). In order for the digester to operate continuously
the sediments must be removed regularly.
The grit discharge system developed by FITEC is composed of an internal floor scraper and an external
sediment trap. This system is a reliable long term solution that maximizes digester performance.
