The cause of the problem

Students were passive during teaching and learning process. They were not apply the concept of subject that they were
learning

2. Classroom Situation

Before conducting the research, the teaching learning process was not interesting,
because in teaching learning procesess the teacher did not use media. Basically, the English
teacher had applied the stages of teaching writing; pre writing (teacher helped students the
writing), during writing (teacher helped students made outline and draft) and post writing
(teacher helped students to check the worksheet and revise it).
Based on the researchers observation, he found the fact that can be explained as
follows: (1) Students paid low attention to the teachers explanation (2) Students lacked of
learning resources; (3) Students talk another when they asked to do exercise (noisy); and (4) the
students were not motivated in writing class
3. Cause of Writing Skill Problems
The students difficulties of writing came from the students and teacher. From the
students, the causes were: (1) the students found it difficult to get ideas to write, and (2) the
students could not express their ideas in English. In the interview, when the observer asked the
students, Apakah kamu mempunyai kesulitan dalam membuat paragraph? Student CM said
Iya mas karena mau nulis bingung yang mau ditulis apa mas, sulit mengeluarkan ide mas.
Similar to CM, Student RA answered Kadang - kadang kalau mau menulis tidak tau arti
bahasa Inggrisnya.

From the explanation above, it can be concluded that the students had problem in main
idea and vocabulary. That was why the students were not interested in writing English. The next
problem, most of the students were passive. It was because they had less motivation. They were
shy and afraid of making mistake. The students tended to become silent and passive.
From the teacher, the causes were: (1) The teacher used limited learning resources, such
as book or other media, and (2) She did not use appropriate media in teaching learning process so
that the students felt bored. Because the teacher taught monotonously, she failed to interest the
students. In addition, the teacher seldom gave the students motivation during the class. It made
the students reluctant to come to the class.
The proposed solution of the problem are: (1) the researcher gives the students
motivation by using picture as teaching media, and (2) the researcher uses pictures to help
students improving their writing skill.
