Office hours: Monday 11:00AM -12:00PM Office hours: Wednesday 4:00PM –
or by appointment 5:00PM

Course Objectives:
1. The student will be able to locate and identify major brain structures on brain
atlas plates, MRI, CAT, and PET scans.
2. The student will understand and appropriately use neuro-medical terminology.
3. The student will have an understanding of neural control of sensory systems
and the related neuroanatomical structures.
4. The student will have an understanding of neural control of motor systems and
the related neuroanatomical structures.
5. The student will have an understanding of neural control of integrative systems
(i.e. learning, memory, endocrine) and the related neuroanatomical structures.

Knowledge Outcomes:
1. The applicant must demonstrate knowledge of regional anatomy of the human
brain.
2. The applicant must demonstrate knowledge of functional anatomy of the
human brain.
3. The applicant must demonstrate the ability to identify major brain structures
on brain atlas plates.
4. The applicant must demonstrate knowledge of neuroanatomical control of
sensory, motor, and integrative systems.

Readings:
Required Textbook: Recommended reading:
Neuroanatomy 3rd Ed., John H. Martin The Human Brain 5th Ed., John Nolte

Student Evaluation:
Grading is based on the following criteria: 90% correct for A’s, 80% for B’s, 70% for
C’s, and 50% for D’s. There are three (3) mandatory evaluations. They each cover one
third of the course material and are worth 1/3 of the final grade. An optional final
exam will be offered for those who are interested in the opportunity to improve their
final grade. The exam will be cumulative and worth 25% of the final grade. In other
words: the grade on this final exam will be averaged with the grades of the other
three exams to obtain a final course grade.
Policies:
• Exams: DO NOT MISS AN EXAM! The general policy is that exams are only
administered on the dates and times indicated below. Exceptions are made
only if you were seriously ill and have documentation from a physician or have
some other family-related emergency and notify me prior to the exam.

• Scholastic Dishonesty. Students who violate University rules on scholastic

dishonesty are subject to disciplinary penalties, including the possibility of
failure in the course and/or dismissal from the University. Since such
dishonesty harms the individual, all students and the integrity of the
University, policies on scholastic dishonesty will be strictly enforced.
