SECTION - 11 TELEPHONE SYSTEM

11.1

GENERAL.
For telephone system the contractor is required to provide and install telephone conduit,
cables, wiring, outlet boxes, rosettes, and telephone distribution boxes. The telephone
exchange equipment and apparatus will also be supplied and installed by the Contractor.

11.2

CONDUIT & CONDUIT ACCESSORIES.


The specifications for conduit and conduit accessories shall be the same as given in section 3
of these specifications. The telephone outlet boxes shall be 3"x3"x2" deep. These shall be
made of 16 SWG sheet steel and provided with earth terminals. A 5mm thick white plastic
cover plate shall be fixed on the box for fixing flush type rosettes on it.

11.3

TELEPHONE CABLES.
The telephone cables shall have pre-insulated copper wire conductors of 0.6mm dia. and
PVC sheathed overall. Additional wire of 0.4mm dia. for cables of 1-10 pairs shall be
provided. The cable shall be of 250 V grade with insulation resistance of 100 meg-ohms/km.
The indoor cables shall be Siemens type JY (ST) Y and underground cables shall be Siemens
type A2Y (L) 2Y. Equivalent makes shall be acceptable subject to the prior approval of the
Engineer.

11.4

TELEPHONE ROSETTES.
Telephone rosettes for jack type plugs shall have two 5 Amps copper terminals. These shall
be flush mounting type, having plastic or bakelite body. A sample of the telephone rosette
shall be submitted to the Engineer approval.

11.5

TELEPHONE DISTRIBUTION BOXES.


Telephone distribution boxes shall be made of 16 SWG sheet steel to accommodate the
terminal strips. The terminal strips of copper terminals and number of ways as called for in
the Bill of Quantities shall be installed on insulated material preferably teak wood inside the
sheet steel box. The recessed sheet steel box shall be provided with two leaf hinged door and
a mechanical lock. The distribution box shall be cleaned, degreased, derusted and painted
with two coat of stove enamel over two base coats of antirust red oxide paint inside. The
shade of the stove enamel shall be approved by the Engineer.

11.6

TELEPHONE EXCHANGE.
Electronic Private Automatic Branch Exchange (EPABX), micro-processor controls with
stored programmed in digital transmission using pulse code modulation with time division
multi plex switching with DTMF dialing as well as rotary dialing:

External (Exchange) lines from public (T&T) Exchange as specified in B.O.Q.

Internal (Extension) Lines as per B.O.Q.


The EPABX shall be Siemens type as specified in B.O.Q.

The EPABX shall have the following features, however PABX with more facilities shall be
preferred.
