Would You Rather

Elysia chlorotica:

Like in Scylla and Charybdis.

Tell me again why

the story always ends

with them doing one thing
forever.

Would you choose eternal life?

Or Wouldnt you?
I like talking games.
Dream girl walks into a bar
but you have to talk to her
like Bob Dylan.
The room feels safer
when you know
what gets given up.
In one story, God is tired
from shearing inclines out,
explaining how to use
all the parts of the animal.

In another, the dead man

wakes to tell the other side
Its always St. Patricks Day
Irish & Roman Soldiers
throwing dice, bills thinning
into fallen, tattered trees.
Paulie Walnuts tells him
its not hell, its purgatory.
Then more of the same thing.

emerald slugs

crush part way through the ground

like green glass breaking

Feeling One Way

The poem happens in Las Vegas,
Hotel Bathroom, pinkly lit.
So, talking makes distance further
and go away at the same time.
The rain comes in the middle.
I used to think
so much about intelligence.
I didnt know what it meant.
So the hero thinks
the moon is talking out loud.
So, the rain again. So what you love
you end up feeling sorry for,

too. Once, in detention

I held moss in my hands.
Not everyone wants back in time
the same way. Okay. So what
if Im having
one of those moments?
