We will learn about each community and the people from the
community
Read pages 4-6
Show the students the pictures of the children and where they live
ASK: Why do you think we are going to learn about these children
in particular? What makes them special?
Reiterate that children need to sitting on the carpet
Make sure all the children see the pictures in the book
Smartboard Activity: Where are the children from?
Write the names of the three children down on the board
Ask the students who they think belongs to each community
Get a show of thumbs up and thumbs down to see if students agree
Remove the green sliders one at a time
Remind the students that they are also a part of a community
Make sure that all students are giving feedback with their thumbs
Remind students of what a community is

Have students give you the initials of the provinces where the
children (including themselves) are from
Have them write down the initials of the provinces on a map of
Canada
Once they are done they can lightly shade in the provinces
Make sure students are participating by writing down initials are
shading them in
Be sure to have students write their name on their maps and hand
them in
