Course Description
The purpose of this course is to provide students with basic knowledge of historical factors,
characteristics, needs, educational strategies, and support services of and for individuals
with special needs as learners.
Course Outcome
At the end of the course, students should be able to:
1. Identify and classify children with special needs
2. Describe the differences between and within individuals with special needs
3. Explain the educational implications towards the teaching and learning process due
to such differences;
4. Discuss different perspectives on educating individuals with special needs

Content knowledge of characteristics of special needs children which students can apply
when they deal with this group of learners.

Synopsis
The course discusses basic adapted movement, locomotors and non-locomotors for children
with special needs. The emphasis is on movement, sports skills and recreation teaching
method. It also introduces students to the principles of designing appropriate leisure and
physical opportunities for the students with disabilities, and increases the awareness of
societal attitudes toward special needs.
