: CANCER NURSING

Course Description
: This course deals with the care of patient suffering from Cancer
emphasizing on the health promotion and maintenance. It covers the epidemiology, risk
factors, pathophysiology of Cancer including its physiology and psychological effects, the
treatment modalities of cancer and the common cancer disorders.

Course Objectives

: After the Course, the Graduate Student will be able to

1. state the risk factors in the development of Cancer
2. discuss the pathophysiology of Cancer
3. describe at least three nursing interventions employed
in the care of patients with any of the major Cancers
4. identify the procedures for administering
antineoplastic and therapeutic agents as part of Cancer
treatment
5. enumerate and discuss nursing interventions
appropriate for a patient receiving antineoplastic
agents
6. develop a short plan of care for an oncology patient
experiencing nutritional difficulties, acute or chronic
pain, psychological distress regarding the diagnosis
