PhotoDesign
Description:
Create a original photodesign that displays your photography and
Photoshop skill to showcase for a company.
Date:
Saturday, October 18th
Course/Instructor:
Comm 130 Section 5
Joel Judkins
Program(s)/Tools:
Adobe Photoshop
Objective:
Demonstrate good photography skills, establish a good color scheme
and demonstrate your photo editing skills with Photoshop.
Process:
When I was taking pictures I felt the photos I did the best were the
focus foreground and background pictures so I decided that my picture for this project would similar to those. Once I decided on a picture to use I considered what message I was sending and how to best
convey that using the elements of design and a color scheme. I decided on using a blue monochromatic color scheme that matched the
rocks in the picture. After that I decided what quote I want to used
.Then I started editing the picture and I adjusted the brightness
and contrast so it was a little lighter and had more contrast. I also
adjusted the vibrancy and levels. I then sharped the color of the red
leaf to add a bit more contrast. Once I finished with that I started
creating the design, adding the message and the shapes.

Montage
Description:
This project is an inspirational montage created by blending two
images and adding text.
Date:
Saturday, October 26th
Course/Instructor:
Comm 130 Section 5
Joel Judkins
Program(s)/Tools:
Adobe Photoshop
Objective:
Learn to use Photoshop layers and mask. Also learn to blend pictures smoothly together.
Process:
First I found both the images I was looking for then I placed them
both in Photoshop. I adjusted the size of the background picture
to the correct size of 8.5x11in. Then I used the lasso tool to outline
the area of my second picture that I wanted to use for the montage.
I dragged the selected area into the background picture and then
started to blend my picture. I made a mask for the second picture
and started to blend the pictures so that the transition to the dandelions would look natural. After I finished that I added the text
and then I used the rectangle for background purposes so you could
better see the text. Finally I add the rectangle to the top the bring
the whole montage together.

Flier
Description:
Black and White Flier to promote a graduate leadership conference.
Date:
Saturday, October 5th
Course/Instructor:
Comm 130 Section 5
Joel Judkins
Program(s)/Tools:
Adobe InDesign
Objective:
Use FOCUS design principles and appropriate typography. Then use
InDesign to create the a flier using the image, text and logo provided.
Process:
The first step was to make four sketches and to generate ideas. While
making the sketches I was considering how to best convey the message and the best way to appeal to the audience. With those sketches
I then decided which I thought applied best to the FOCUS principles.
Then using that sketch of my choice I used InDesign to create the
flier. In considering the audience was graduate students I wanted the
design to appear professional but also something that would catch
your attention. I used contrast of the black and white to emphasize
the title and catch your attention. Also the size and contrast of the
title creates a good focal point. The thickness of the box around text
creates visual hierarchy in the picture as your eye moves from the
title to the picture to the text.

Brochure
Description:
Create a two side brochure.
Date:
Saturday, December 6th
Course/Instructor:
Comm 130 Section 5
Joel Judkins
Program(s)/Tools:
Adobe Photoshop
Adobe InDesign
Adobe Illustrator
Objective:
Create a brochure in InDesign that is double sided and folding. Learn to
wrap text around images and use paragraph styles.
Process:
The first thing I did was decided what I wanted my brochure to be
about. I would really love to do more traveling so I decided that I would
make a brochure that is for a company that does tours, specifically of
Scotland. I researched different places in Scotland and decided on specific destinations. I then wrote up all the information I would need to
meet the required minimum of 250 words in a word document. After
picking the destinations I also researched different kinds of brochures.
After choosing one I started working in InDesign. I made the layout for
a four-fold brochure. I took all the pictures I was planning to use and
cropped and edited them in Photoshop. On each photo I used the select
tool to crop them the way I wanted and I also adjusted the contrast and
the vibration and hue so they are similar in each picture. It was actually
after I had worked with my pictures in Photoshop that I picked a color
scheme that would incorporate the pictures and the theme of Scotland. I
then put my pictures into my InDesign making sure to put them in the
right position. I adjusted them so that each of the layers of the brochure
would show. I then added the text and arranged it so it looked good. I
added color to each page and on the back I placed my logo with the company title.

Event Add
Description:
Making an event add for a local company that is for a benefit event.
Date:
Saturday, October 12th
Course/Instructor:
Comm 130 Section 5
Joel Judkins
Program(s)/Tools:
Microsoft Word Publisher
Espon Scanner
PDF converter
Objective:
Scanning a high quality image and using the tools in Microsoft word
to create a event add.
Process :
First I scanned the picture of the theater, then I had to crop it so
that the image was the proper dimensions. Then I put the picture in
word publisher layout and gave the picture a background of red that
matches the red of the chairs in the picture. I wanted the title of the
phantom of the opera to be emphasized so I made it bigger and set it
in front of the picture. I then created the title on the top so that there
is a clear message of the purpose of the add. Then I put all the information in the bottom corner and changed the font sizes so the information I thought was more important would be emphasized. There
was still space in the left corner and there was too much white space
so I added the mask that I drew so that it would feel more balanced
and hopefully bring the design together.

Business Card

Program(s)/Tools:
Adobe InDesign
Adobe Illustrator
Objective:
Create a new logo to fit the company and use illustrator and InDesign
to create a business card and letterhead with a layout consistent to the
logo.
Process:
First I had to come up with a new company and logo for that company. The company that I decided to make a logo for is a Spa, I chose the
name first then considered the audience and picked a color scheme. After I picked the color scheme I created my logo in Illustrator. I then set
up the format of my stationary and business card in InDesign and started working with the elements of my logo to create an appealing design.
I then did my business card and also added the waterfall to the background and softened it. I add the bars across the top and bottom, then
my text, then I added the edges that again incorporated the circles, and
finally I added the circles to the top and bottom bar and softened them

used as a simple element in my logo and place it as the background image and
softened the color so it wasnt so dominate. I then added text, the circles that
incorporate the color scheme and add a line at the top to balance the design.

Adobe Illustrator
Objective:
Create a new logo to fit the company in illustrator. Then use a text
editor to create a web page that will display your logo and explain the
process of creating it.
Process:
I created this web page using Text Wrangler and though I had
some experiences working with HTML I have had little or no experience working with CSS. I did a lot of double checking my work on
W3Schools to make sure that I was doing everything correctly and
also validating it. I started off by changing the HTML so that the body
was my description of the process it too for me to make the logo. Then
using the CSS that we were given and inserting my logo and making
basic changes. I changed the font to what I wanted and also the colors.
Then I started trying to adjust the borders and made a border around
my title. I worked on positioning my logo for awhile so that I would
have it in the right position then I moved my title below the logo.

Logo

Course/Instructor:
Comm 130 Section 5
Joel Judkins
Program(s)/Tools:
Adobe Illustrator
Objective:
Create three new logo variations to fit the company. Use illustrator to achieve this.
Process:
I used the illustrator to create all three of the logos. I used the pen
tool to trace the basic shapes for all of my logos and then used the
anchor tool to adjust it the way I wanted. I then added the text and
picked that font that I felt fit the logo best. After that I started adding color and picking a color scheme. I worked a lot trying to make
the text more visible and making it the focal point.

your design. After youve research you start sketching ideas and go
through that process until you have refined to the point you want to
start using InDesign and Illustrator. First I made the train in Illustrator using the trace too and then made small adjustment to it myself to make it look more like its fading off into the distanc3. I place
the train in illustrator and starte working with the gradiande and
colors. Last step was adding the text and dedicding on the fonts.
