Assignment #1 Answer McGinnis Question # 2

Does thinking plays a crucial role in human behavior?

Abruptly, the answer to this question would be yes. In todays pharma world lagged thinking will
yield different results. Outcome would be either positive or negative. The major reason is
forecasting the crucial factors in different segments.
Thought process will be always fruitful when it goes in parallel with behavioral approach.
Definition of Thinking: Thinking can be defined as the way by which characteristic of a
particular individual or group varies with time period.
Definition of Behavior: Behavior can be defined as the action, reaction, or functioning of a
system, under normal or specified circumstances
Key aspects of thinking & behavior in OB: there are certain key factors that, influences thinking
and behavior in organization. They are perception, cognitive biases, Theory X and Theory Y,
expectancy, and attributions.
Coming to my personal experience, we being a traditional business family of medicine decided
to open a new vertical in manufacturing medicine for Dengue disease. Though the disease was
not widely spread across the country but the foot prints were remarkable. Being 60 years old
manufacturing company, our vision, mission and objectives were clearly defined.

In the same way, we had a thought process for designing new medicine. Many factors such as
efficacy, adverse effects, cost and revenue. We had an efficient team of 6 members in taking
decision. Dengue was invented in the year 2010. Almost 1000 people were the victims of this
disease in the span of 2 months.
Our laboratory in India tried to find the root cause of this problem and found a solution after
heavy research of 3 months. At last the day has come to take the decision of manufacturing the
medicine. Our internal expertise predicted that the cost incurred was higher in comparison with
revenue and they had concluded based on the behavior of disease and personal experience in
manufacturing. We were dilemma situation to move forward. Almost we took three weeks to
conclude the process and as verdict we lost huge business opportunity because of competitor.
Our delayed thinking and human behavior made us to take late decision by which the market and
profits were doomed. As a whole thinking and behavior should go in parallel and try to make
quick decision as soon as possible.
There is an immutable conflict at work in life and in business, a constant battle between peace
and chaos. Neither can be mastered, but both can be influenced. How you go about that is the
key to success. By Phil Knight
Conflicts in an organization is inevitable because due to the varying perspectives and thinking or
opinion between one individual to another so an individual cannot be immune to the conflicts in
an organization or in any relationship. An organization is made with the set of relationships like
Employer and Employee & ordinate and subordinates. The perfect conclusion would be that both
gatherings will at last find that setting aside clash and connecting with an unprejudiced outsider
will put their clash to rest.

The best examples of perception and opinion conflicts are which were led in my cousins
pharmaceutical company.
Discrimination Issue: This is an issue happened between the HR Manager and minority chemical
engineer while recruiting and Manager involved to rest the conflict. A professional and
experienced manager or anyone must listen to both arguments and then he should give a
judgment into ones favor. In this case also manager has communicated with both H R Manager
and Chemical Engineering to know both arguments.
Here are the Perceptions
According to the perception of H R Manager given to Manager, he would like to recruit the
person who is dominant in the subject as well as communication and leadership. That would
really increase the project scope and it would give a positive outcome.
According to the perception of Engineer given to the manager, He was regionally discriminated
because both belong to different state and refused him in the selection even though he is very
qualified individual in concerned subject and as well as leadership skills.
After Managers careful Thinking by looking into both arguments and documents of that
engineer, the manager had made a decision i.e. suspending H R Manager from the service would
definitely solve the conflict because One cannot designate an employee with the communal or
region or on religion basis despite even if there is the best qualified individual. This would be
direct discrimination and one can have the capacity to make a case to a livelihood tribunal or
court of law on company so in order to avoid the jeopardize situation manager had made a
critical decision.

Finally we can conclude that in any successful organization the formula is the combination of
thought process and behavior of individual and group with their perceptions.
