Child abuse is an American epidemic. In 2005, more than 3.5 million children
were reported as victims of child abuse or neglect. The staggering truth is that
before today is over, four children will die because their little bodies can not
bear any more abuse.
B. General Statements
Neglect involving ranging from the failure to provide food, clothing, or shelter
to the failure to provide medical care, supervision or schooling. Neglect are
very difficult problems. The injuries sustained often resemble those caused by
unintentional or accidentional situations and it is very important for police to
must carefully evaluate all reasonable explanations. Further , the victim is
always a child, and some are very young. Police need to understand
childrens development capacities such as language and cognitive abilities.
Finally, neglect unlike many other crimes that occur in public places, neglect
usually occurs in private places, and the victims may try to hide evidence of
the abuse or dent that it took place.

Neglect has a more negative effect on children. It doesnt just effect them
physically but many different ways such as verbal abuse, psychological
abuse, sexual abuse and hate crimes. Neglect against children should be

abuse, sexual abuse and hate crimes. Neglect against children should be
avoided because these things contribute to a lot of impact. The impact of
neglect on a child may not be apparent at an early stage except in the most
extreme cases. However, the effects of neglect are harmful and possibly longlasting for the victims.

B. Suggestions/ recommendations
1. Public awareness campaigns informing citizens how and where to report
suspected child abuse and neglect
2. Public service announcements on the radio or television encouraging
parents to use non violent forms of discipline
3. Family resource centers offering information and referral services to
families living in low-income neighbourhoods
