The New Hampshire man who allegedly kidnapped a 14-year-old girl as she was heading
home from her high school in Conway last year and then imprisoned her for nine months is
facing 205 charges in two sweeping grand jury indictments.
The indictments, unsealed by the New Hampshire courts Wednesday, detail a horrific ordeal
for the victim at the hands of 34-year-old Nathaniel E. Kibby during the entire length of her
captivity. The victim returned home in late July.

In one incident during her captivity, Kibby allegedly laid on top of the teenager, handed her a
gun and told her it was better for him that the female shoot him than that female tell police
who he was and what he had done to her.
He also demanded that she describe someone other than him to authorities in return for
agreeing to release her, prosecutors allege.
Kibby is accused of kidnapping the teenager on Oct. 9, 2013 in Conway and he now faces
three counts of kidnapping, one count of robbery, two counts of criminal threatening, three
counts of felonious use of a firearm and three counts of criminal use of some form of a stun
gun for his alleged actions on that day alone. A grand jury in Carroll County returned those
charges. Kibby is scheduled to be arraigned Jan. 9 in Carroll County Superior Court on those
charges.
The bulk of the charges are tied to the succeeding nine months when Kibby allegedly
imprisoned the teenaged girl on his property in Gorham where he sometimes put a shock
collar used on barking dogs around her neck to keep control over her for long periods of
time, prosecutors allege.
The indictments, returned by a Coos County grand jury, allege that on multiple occasions
during her captivity, Kibby allegedly sexually assaulted the teenager, leading prosecutors to
file five counts of felonious sexual assault for each incident.
According to the indictment, prosecutors invoked New Hampshire law to charge Kibby with
threatening the teenager if she did not comply with his sexual demands; charged him with
sexually assaulting a kidnap victim still imprisoned by her captor; charged him with sexually
assaulting a kidnap victim under 18 years of age, and charged him for assaulting someone
who could not physically resist.
He is also charged with sexually assaulting someone between the ages of 13 and 16.
Kibby also allegedly:
- Forced the girl in October 2013 to write a letter to her mother with false information about
the females condition.
- Used a Taser-like device on the girl in retaliation after the girl carved information about
Kibbys identity into a letter she wrote to her mother.
- Pointed a rifle at the teenager and threatened to kill her using a rifle that he said was
powerful enough to penetrate body armor and also vowed to kill her family and her dogs if
she disclosed his identity to police.

- Ordered her to cleanse herself in July once he learned that a missing persons investigation
was underway, a move he allegedly took in order to eliminate any DNA evidence linking him
to the victim.
- For most of her imprisonment, tied the victims wrists with plastic zip ties and then left
them on for an extended period of time, which left the victim with scarring on her wrists and
the loss of feeling to her hands.
- Taped her eyes shut for an extended period of time.
- Put a shirt over her head, gagged her and then put a motorcycle helmet over her face,
partially cutting off the flow of both blood and fresh air.
The Boston Globe, which has previously reported the identity of the kidnapping victim, is
now withholding her name and image at the request of her family and prosecutors. It is the
Globes policy to name the victim of alleged sexual crimes only if that person agrees to be
identified.
New Hampshire Attorney General Joseph A. Foster is scheduled to speak briefly to reporters
about the case at his office this afternoon in the State House in Concord, N.H.
