SAFETY
AND
Evolution Series E9000 motor control centers take the next step
toward a simplicity of design that leads to easier operation and
maintenance. The next step up in safety for personnel and property.
The next step forward in the efficient use of space.
These evolutionary advances extend to versatility in application
from the most complex auxiliary drive systems to the most basic
control of fan or pump motors without sacrificing compatibility
with GEs 7700, 8000 and Spectra motor control center predecessors.
SPACE-EFFICIENCY
They also embrace the scope and caliber of components and
systems required to satisfy those applications, from the latest in
solid-state starters and drives to world-class programmable logic
control to a wide variety of proven control and distribution devices.
And, of course, it all comes in NEMA Type 1, 2, 3R or 12 enclosures.
Enhanced simplicity. Advanced safety. Reduced space requirements. The natural selection in motor control centers is the
Evolution Series E9000.

600A and 250A plug-in stabs under double spring pressure assure positive contact with the vertical
bus, while two-step engagement and a positive guidance system ease insertion and withdrawal
Large isolated wire troughs with separate doors make wiring and inspection easy
No special bus barriers are required for 65KAIC or 100KAIC bus bracing
Pull-apart control terminal blocks allow units to be withdrawn without disconnecting the wiring
Size 1 and 2 FVNR starters are interchangeable in 12 high units, making field modifications simple
Lift-up handles allow fast, full access to fused switches and circuit breakers
Powder-coated paint withstands 1000-hour salt spray tests for lasting protection
Plastic knock-outs in the vertical wireway ladder assembly smooth unit wiring
A Microsoft Windows-based Engineering Drawing System creates high-quality front, top,
bottom and side views along with specific device information

A polyester-reinforced sandwich insulates and isolates the vertical bus to help prevent the
spread of faults, and small stab openings provide effective isolation
Optional unit ground bus stabs engage the vertical ground bus before engaging the vertical bus
Clear Lexan barriers separate the main horizontal bus from the top wireway, so entrance to
the wireway can be made without danger of contact with a live bus; inferred scans can be
performed without barrier removal
Positive indication makes ON-TRIP-OFF status unmistakable, and handles can be locked in
the OFF position with up to three padlocks
Units can be withdrawn to a disconnected position and padlocked for maintenance
An optional automatic shutter covers the vertical bus stab area when a plug-in units are
withdrawn
New oversized laser-engraved nameplates identify units at a glance
All case-side wireways feature a 12 roll-formed lip that prevents skinned insulation

The 6 150A and 12 250A feeder breakers and the 6 starter feature horizontal handles to
minimize space requirements (vertical handles are available)
Size 5 FVNR-circuit breaker combinations can be provided in 36, so two size 5 units will fit
in one section
Compact size 1 FVNR starters can be installed in a 6 space, while still accommodating a
100VA CPT and up to three pilot devices
Additional feeders fit in a single section using 850A vertical bus

Circuit protection
The scope of circuit protection offered in Evolution Series E9000 motor
control centers is broad enough to meet every need. From among Mag-Break
and Spectra RMS motor circuit protectors, heavy-duty fusible disconnects,
high-pressure contact switches and rugged, reliable Power Break II insulated
case breakers, youll find the specific protection your system requires.
Pilot devices
CR104P pilot devices which come in every conceivable form deliver
the high-class appearance and reliable operation that put a good face
on and provide a good interface with the motor control center.
Intelligent communications
Intelligent devices in the Evolution
Series E9000 can be networked to
communicate diagnostic and process
information to remote computers for
monitoring and logging. This systems
approach helps speed maintenance,
reduce downtime and increase productivity. GEs ECM, M/S2000, adjustable
frequency drives, solid-state reduced
voltage starters and VersaMax PLC
all share this capability, using DeviceNet
as a protocol. All are ODVA certified.

At GE, we not only listen to our customers, we respond. Both continuous but informal feedback and structured focus groups provided the foundation for the Evolution Series E9000.
OEMs asked for the flexibility that comes from a simplified design. Users wanted enhanced
safety features and easier access for maintenance and troubleshooting. Consultants sought a
smaller footprint so they could minimize electrical room space. Using the
acclaimed Six Sigma process, GE designed a motor control center that
meets all these and other needs.
Simpler is better
The straightforward design that resulted requires 60% fewer handle parts, 25% fewer case
parts, 70% fewer wire harnesses and 75% fewer bucket saddle and door assembly parts.
Along with snap-in shelves and easily installed starters and feeders, this simplification leads
to higher, more consistent quality for you.
