Head of Retail Banking and Wealth Management

HSBC Bank (Vietnam) Ltd.

Godfrey Swain was appointed Head of Retail Banking and Wealth Management
(RBWM) for HSBC Vietnam in August 2011 and will lead this ever-expanding segment
of HSBCs business as Vietnams middle class and mass affluent segment continues to
grow against the backdrop of the countrys dynamic and fast-changing economy.

Godfrey has a great deal of experience in the RBWM field of HSBCs global business:
prior to joining the team in Vietnam this year, Godfrey was Managing Director and Head
of RBWM of HSBC Tokyo branch, where he served customers in the worlds third
largest economy since August 2009.

Previously, Godfrey held directorships within HSBC Life Assurance, HSBC Asset
Management, HSBC Investment Services, and HSBC International Financial Advisors at
HSBC Bank Malta from January 2006 until 2009, when he left for Japan.

He worked for HSBC in Malta for a total of 10 years, where his roles included Head of
Marketing and Communications for departments within the HSBC Malta Group (20002005) and CEO of Mid-Med Life Assurance/HSBC Life Assurance (Malta) from
September 1995.*

Godfreys earlier career included high profile roles in sales development within the
aviation industry in Sydney, and in the Life Assurance industry in Adelaide, Australia.

He now brings his strong track record of success in a range of banking and support
businesses and expertise in Retail Banking and Wealth Management, Marketing,

Communications, Insurance and Asset Management to HSBC Vietnam, leveraging his

strong exposure to HSBC Group culture and ethos after having worked for the Group in
different markets and territories, as well as participating in several global and regional
leadership and development programmes, over the last 15 years.

Godfrey has also always been an active member of the community and local professional
bodies. He was a member and formerly the Chairman of the Financial Services section of
the Malta Chamber of Commerce, a member of the Rotary Club of Malta and a fellow of
the Earthwatch Institute.

Godfrey holds a Bachelor of Business from Monash University, Victoria, majoring in

marketing and economics, and a post graduate diploma in strategic management from
Henley Management College in the UK.

* In 1999, HSBC purchased 70% shareholding in what was then Mid-Med Bank Ltd.,
Mid-Med Bank was the shareholder in a fully owned subsidiary company called MidMed Life Assurance Co. Limited and other subsidiary companies. On the purchase,
HSBC purchased both the parent company Mid-Med Bank and all its subsidiary
companies which included Mid-Med Life Assurance Co. Limited. Godfrey Swain was
the founding CEO of Mid-Med Life which then became HSBC Life Assurance (Malta) a
fully owned subsidiary of HSBC Bank Malta plc.
