ORGANISATION,MANAGEMENT, OBJECTIVES AND FUNCTIONS

OF MARKETING SOCITIES.
Definition of Marketing Society:
Marketing , in general means Purchase and Sales of goods and services.
COOPERATIVE MARKETING:
A Cooperative Marketing society can be considered as a
Cooperative association of cultivators formed primarily for the
purpose of helping the members to market their produce more
profitably than is possible through private trade.(As per RBI)
A Cooperative Marketing Society is an association of
cultivators organized on Cooperative Principles to perform
marketing functions.
Cooperative Marketing is the System by which a group of farmers
join to carry on some or all the processes involved in bringing goods from
the producer to the consumer. (By Margaret Digby an FAO Expert).
A Cooperative Marketing Society must be a society of agricultural
producers joining together with the object of selling their own produce.
2.MAIN OBJECTIVES OF COOP MKG. SOCITIES:
1. To provide remunerate price for the Agril. Produce of farmers.
2. To provide Agril. inputs at the Right Price and at the right time and
to decrease the cost of the production of Agril. Produce.
3. To act as the Govt. Agent for the Procurement of Agril. produce
at Minimum Support Price (MSP) on commercial basis.
3. OBJECTS OF MKG. SOCIETY
The main object for. which growers organize a co-operative Mkg.
Society is to enable them to market their purpose their best advantage and
for this purpose to streamline the whole process of movement of goods to
the consuming market.
In brief, the chief objects and aims of a cooperative marketing
society are:
i)
To Strengthen the bargaining Capacity of the cultivator.
ii)
To secure the members a Better Price for the produce.
iii) To eliminate middleman.

To provide members the needed finance.


To persuade the farmers to grow better quality goods.
To stabilize price.
To develop fair trading practices.
To provide the facility of grading and transportation.
To act as an Agent of Govt. for procurement and
implementation of price support Policy (MSP).
To promote the economic interest of its members by
encouraging self-help, thrift and better farming among
members.
To act as a distributive centre for Agricultural requisites
such as seeds, fertilizer, implements etc.
To help in the expansion of co-operative credit programme
by linking marketing with credit. (i.e. with PACS &
members)

4. FUCNTIONS/ACTIVITIES OF MARKETING SOCIETY:


1. Sale of Agril. produce of the members.
(a) Sorting, grading & packing.
(b) Transportation of produce from farm or village to market.
2. To accept Deposits from members.
3. To borrow funds from DCCB / other bank for
(a) Business of marketing society.
(b) To pay the price of produce to farmer members / PACS.
(c) To advance (Pledge loans) to members on the security of their
produce.
4. To rent godowns / processing yards and cold storage to facilitate
storage / processing of produce & for sale of goods.
5. To procure (Purchase) and supply to members.
(a) Fertilizer
(b) Seeds
(c) Implements
(d) Pesticides & Insecticides
(e) Essential domestic requirements.
6. To act as an Agent of the Govt. for the procurement of Agril produce
& supply of Agril production.
7. To encourage thrift (deposit by savings) Self-Help and cooperation
among its members.
8. To have linkage of credit with the PACS (members) for
procurement of Agril. produce & payment of loan of members to
PACS.
9. To act as a warehouseman under the warehouse Act.

10.To work as Agent of Govt. for storage & distribution of PDS items.

PACS/ LAMPS/FSS

Individuals Growers (cultivator) farmer in the area
of operation (producer member)
iii) State Govt.
MANAGEMENT:
BOARD OF DIRECTORS ;
Chairman alongwith other Directors are elected and they
manage the affairs of the Marketing Society. Other staff like Chief
Executive Officer, Sr. Manager, Manaager, Administrative Staff,
Accountant, Cashier, Sales Officer, Sales Assistants, Sales man, Vehicle
Driver and Chowkidar, Peon etc. are there to lookafter different work in
the Society.

5. Deposits from Members.
6. Borrowings from Coop. Banks & other Banks.
7. Borrowings from NCDC (for construction of Godowns.)
