Now fit the groove of the double bead into the hole of the cell plate by bending the collar
in a kidney shape. Begin such that the seam overlap of the double seam is located on the
opposite side of the bent-in collar ( ). Bend the collar everywhere towards the cell plate
(fig. 7 and 8

Fig. 7

Fig. 8

The collar should audibly snap into place when lightly pressed with the finger. (fig. 9).
If the snap ring does not immediately engage in the perforated plate during installation,
do not, under any circumstances, use force (hammer, etc.) (fig. 10)

Fig. 10

Fig. 9

Try the following solution: Press in the opposite side of the snap ring (position (1) in fig. 11).
Firstly snap the side opposite the longitudinal seam overlap (position 2 in fig. 11) into the cell
plate, followed by the site with the longitudinal seam overlap (1). The filter bag is now firmly
seated in the cell plate. This can be checked by passing the hand along the snap ring from
inside. Rotating the filter bag in the perforated plate by hand is no longer possible. (fig. 1

II. Inspection and Installation

2. Inspection of the Supporting Cages
All (used or new) supporting cages must be thoroughly checked before installation.
It is particularly important in this case that:
The supporting cage material should be made of rost-free material according to
the operating conditions;

that no sharp welding edges are present on the supporting cages

that a base plate is welded in for all supporting cages
The distance between the vertical wires should be less than 45 mm and specifically for
PTFE filter media less than 25 mm;
The supporting cages are in good condition.
(not distorted, no loose wires, no rough surfaces)
Galvanised supporting cages may react to HCl in the exhaust gas and form ZnCl2;
in this case, a solvent for polyamide and acrylic fibres is involved, which locally
chemically corrodes the filter media
Long supporting cages and particularly those which are not fixed in the cell plate
may easily impact on each other. Consequently, the filter bags should be precisely
aligned or fixed in order to avoid mechanical damage.
Clean used supporting cages of dust in order to allow easier detection of dust
penetration during leakage testing and avoid a scouring effect between the
supporting cage and the filter bag.
High quality supporting cages prolong the service life of the filter bags, particularly in
conjunction with fibres (Acryl, PTFE) which are friction-sensitive.
We have been certified according to the quality management system ISO 9001, the environment management system ISO 14001
and the occupational health and safety management system BS OHSAS 18001.

II. Inspection and Installation

3. Installation Instruction for Supporting Cages
Installation should be performed by technically qualified and trained personnel
Have the top and bottom supporting cage section ready for installation. Subsequently
slide the bottommost supporting cage section followed by the upper supporting cage
Section carefully into the filter bag
Cautiously slide the bottommost supporting cage section into the filter bag
Carefully install existing couplings:
- In the case of double ring / sheet metal ring couplings etc., check for a firm seat and
lock the safety devices provided
- Pay attention to a linear connection in the case of claw couplings and realign
projecting and bent wires of the claws; otherwise there is a risk of damage
to the filter bag
After installation of the uppermost supporting cage section, the supporting cage must lie
on the cell plate as intended. If the supporting cages cannot be completely introduced
into the filter bag, under no circumstances should the supporting cages be "jammed into
the bag" (damage to the filter bag) and the cause must be investigated instead (e.g.
verification of the correct bag / cage dimensions)
If the supporting cage is also fixed to the cell plate, organised and regular alignment
of the supporting cages is indicated

III. Starting and Shut Down Procedures of a Bag Filter System

1. Preservation of Filter Bags
In case of prolonged stoppages lasting weeks and months, it is recommended to preserve
the filter bags with trass powder (suevite). The latter possesses the property of absorptivity,
binding condensation, thereby preventing encrustation of the filter bags.
1. Starting of the fan
2. Shutting down of the cleaning system
3. Addition of the preservative at the inlet of the bag filter system (or through the maintenance
hatch in the hopper area) in a quantity of 250 g trass powder per 1 m of filter area
4. In doing so, the differential pressure should increase by 2 3 mbar; otherwise the
preservative has not reached the filter bags, but has fallen directly into the dust collection
hopper instead
5. Shutting down of the fan, closing of the bag filter system
6. Before commissioning again, remove the preservative by repeated pulses and
subsequently begin at stage a.) cold start

IV. Maintenance, Removal and Storage

3. Recommendations for the Use of the UV-Lamp
Stand the lamp case on a firm base. Open the lid and remove the 230 V connecting cable, the
device cable, the hand lamp and the tripod. Ensure that the device cable terminal is firmly
seated in the bottom of the case. Pass both leads outwards in the recesses on the front faces
of the housing and close the lid. Push-fit the tripod into the housing with the lamp with the
pistol grip positioned on the tripod so that no one can directly gaze into the light beam
(preferably slightly downwards). Connect the 230 V lead (an unwound cable reel is
recommended in this case), connect the device; the indicator lamp on the metal case must
illuminate. The UV lamp develops its full luminosity after a few minutes. The white lamp in the
pistol grip can be used for orientation in the filtration system by pressing the pushbutton. (This
facilitates work in the dark environment considerably!)
Caution: the illuminant is very impact-sensitive!
Only switch off the device after the test, or during longer breaks.
A direct activation process is not possible for design reasons!
Particularly with new filter bags, a few colored spots in the clean gas area are normal.
Damaged filter bags or poorly seated gaskets of the latter generally display distinct traces of
leakage with a leakage channel. Leaky screw fixings in the steel structure also become visible
After use:
- switch off the device with the lamp on the tripod,
- it is essential to allow the illuminant to cool down (at least 5 min.)
Only then can all parts be stowed again in the case, starting with the tripod, light, etc.

We have been certified according to the quality management system ISO 9001, the environment management system ISO 14001
and the occupational health and safety management system BS OHSAS 18001.

IV. Maintenance, Removal and Storage

4. UV-Leakage-Test
During commissioning of newly constructed bag filter systems, filter bag replacement or
routine maintenance, a leakage test with fluorescent contrast powder offers a rapid and
precise possibility of locating leaky areas on the filter bags, the metal structure and the ducts.
Performance can be divided into the following stages (only from stage 4 onwards for new filter
bags):
1. Switch off any existing flue gas desulfurisation system
2. Shut down the fan
3. Switch off the cleaning system of the filtration unit, open the clean gas chambers and
vacuum out all dust deposits in order to expose any leakage points present
4. Start the fan (with approx. 50 - 60% of output for new filter bags without precoating)
5. Add the contrast powder directly at the inlet of the filter system. As a guideline value, we
recommend 5 g of contrast powder per 1 m filter area. Adding contrast powder upstream
from flue gas desulfurisation systems is not recommended, as the contrast powder will
possibly mix with the absorption medium and lose intensity.
6. Shut down the fan after a few minutes and open the chambers. Illuminate the clean gas
area using a special UV lamp. The best contrast is obtained with a darkened environment.
In doing so, pay particular attention to critical areas:
- filter bag seams
- seat of the filter bag in the cell plate
- welding seams of the filtration system
- bypass valves, etc.

We have been certified according to the quality management system ISO 9001, the environment management system ISO 14001
and the occupational health and safety management system BS OHSAS 18001.

7. In leaky areas, the contrast powder passes unimpeded from the raw gas side to the clean
gas side where it shines in its specific color in the beam of the UV lamp.
8. Replace faulty filter bags and seal existing leaks, close the chambers and restart the fan.
9. Set the cleaning system into operation and clean all the filter bags again as many leaks only
appear during cleaning; subsequently start again at stage 6.
10. Once all leaks are eliminated, a final test can be performed as a precaution using contrast
powder of a different color; this will reveal any further leakage points possibly overseen during
the first round.
11. The leakage test can also be performed on already contaminated filter bags; a high contrast
between the leakage powder and process dust is however helpful for this purpose. Our
recommendations can be gathered from the table below.

III. Maintenance, Removal and Storage

5. Procedure during removal of filter bags with CleanTec
Start with the CleanTec assembly. Draw the sleeve with the tubular film jacket over the
aluminum deinstallation ring (fig. 1). Both components must be firmly and securely
interconnected. In doing so, it is important that the sleeve base (A) should be in contact with
the aluminum feet (B).
Start by dismantling the filter bag from the head plate. Remove the supporting cage before
dismantling the filter bag. Bend the snap ring into a kidney shape (fig. 2).

Fig. 1

During the next stage, CleanTec is fitted over the projecting filter bag (fig. 5). Take care that
the filter bag is positioned centrally and that CleanTec has a firm and safe hold in order to
avoid kinking or slipping out of place during disassembly. In order to obtain greater stability,
place your feet on the aluminum feet (refer to fig. 1). Close the open plastic film with a cable
tie (fig. 6) in order to minimize as far as possible dust discharge.
