A police officers responsibilities in reporting the misconduct of another officer
lay in reporting the offenses to an official of higher rank or grade or through the
Corruption Hotline. Employees have obligations to report such misconduct
under Clause 49 of the Police Regulation. This would be a difficult process
because there is fear of reprisal and anger from colleagues where the officer
would be known as a snitch.
4. Outline the rights of the police force to deal with employees who are not
performing according to these standards.
To deal with employees who are not performing according to the standards of
the Code of Conduct, the police force has the right to subject the individuals to
management action in accordance with their actions and the circumstances
surrounding their actions. These management actions include, but are not
limited to informal discussion or a decision to not take action. However, the
police force has a right to subject the individuals to actions that include transfer,
loss of income or removal from the police force based on the severity of the
actions.
