Texas Hellenistic Astrology Retreat 2009: Ancient Prediction

About the Program: Our workshop will familiarize contemporary astrologers with ancient Hellenistic predictive
techniques. During the weekend participants will:

Learn about similarities and differences between Hellenistic, Indian, Medieval and modern
horoscopic astrology.
Practice delineation of basic concepts, as well as a number of more obscure yet powerful
techniques and concepts that did not survive into the modern tradition.
Work with Hellenistic predictive systems, including ancient time-lord techniques that are used to
determine when the natal potential of planets and chart points are activated in the natives life.

About Chris Brennan: Chris is a practicing astrologer and researcher from Denver, Colorado. Throughout his
education at Kepler College he focused on cross-cultural comparisons between the different astrological traditions.
Afterwards, he spent two years working at Project Hindsight in Maryland, and is the author of the forthcoming
book Hellenistic Astrology: The Study of Fate and Fortune, to be released by the American Federation of Astrologers.
Chris is the president of the Association for Young Astrologers and the Research Director of the National Council
for Geocosmic Research. He maintains a consulting practice at www.astrologicalconsultingservices.com, writes an
astrology blog at horoscopicastrologyblog.com and is heading up a cooperative translation project for Hellenistic
astrological texts at www.hellenisticastrology.com.
About the Location: During the last twelve years of her life, Margaret Austin created a unique informal retreat
center on her farm in Chappell Hill, Texas. She opened her home and invited retreatants to camp on her land,
leaving a legacy that is a model of giving in support of the inner life. The Margaret Austin Center
(www.macenter.org) is a public charity established to preserve this beautiful rustic facility as a quiet and inexpensive
setting for retreats and meetings. The Center, a 40-acre site full of native pecan trees and views of rolling hills, serves

primarily the spiritual communities of Texas. The Margaret Austin Center, located 65 miles from Houston and 95
miles from Austin, is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, as is NCGR.
About Astrological Society of Austin (ASA): ASA is the Austin chapter of the National Council for Geocosmic
Research, a non-profit organization dedicated to building community through the promotion of astrological

$250 for the entire weekend, including workshop, accommodations, and meals.

Some things to keep in mind for the weekends events:


You must provide your own bedding (pillow, sheets, blankets), towels, and toiletries.
The average high temperature is 68 and the average low is 48 for Chappell Hill this time of year. Please
dress accordingly.
You are welcome to bring a bottle or two of wine to share for Saturday night dinner.
This retreat is fully catered by Austin chef Elizabeth Rojas. The fare will be vegetarian friendly.
Sleeping arrangements includes bunk beds artfully arranged in small dormitory buildings. If you prefer
other accommodations there are hotels nearby (within 10 miles, near Route 290) in Brenham and
Hempstead. We can discount your registration fee $40 if you choose other accommodations.
All participants will be asked to contribute to the weekend by participating in community service chores.
(i.e. cleaning, cooking, cooperating, cheer)
