What This Document is About
This document describes the work planned to develop the Implementing IBM
SmartCloud Entry on Power Systems course.

Description of Work
This work plan document covers the updating of the 2-day Implementing IBM
SmartCloud Entry on Power Systems course for internal and external audience.
This course is the follow-on of the 1SP0 Cloud Foundation on Power course.

Work Planned
This project will consist of updating the 1SP2 course materials from SmartCloud Entry
2.2 to version 2.4 of SmartCloud Entry product offering. This update will make use of the
following:
1) The updated lab environment created in the 1SP0 course update that was completed
in February of 2013.

Equipment requirements for development

The development team will utilized a Proof of Concept environment to reduce the
overall number of systems required for delivery and allow students to work with the
concept. A production environment would require at least two servers, one for the
management node (ISD, etc.) and one as the node to be managed. The following
equipment will be required for the development work outlined in this document:
- Remote access to the CLP lab environment described in Deploying Cloud
Components on POWER redbook:
Qty 1 - P6-550s (4 CPUs, 16 GB memory, Internal disks 0-23), 1 SCSI adapter,
1+ Ethernet Adapter, 2 Dual port FC Adapters, Hardware Management Console
(HMC)
- This is required to allow for side by side development
Storage Area Network (SAN)
Brocade 2005 B64 Version 10 FC switch
DS3400 storage subsystem

Course content overlap with 1SX2 Implementing SmartCloud

Entry on System x
The content and structure of this course overlaps with the Implementing SmartCloud
Entry on System x course. The presentation and the structure of the labs can be shared
between the two courses. Some of the areas of uniqueness include:
- Installation (Windows/Linux/AIX)
- VMWare vs VMControl virtual infrastructure

Course materials may not be reproduced in whole or in part
without the prior written permission of IBM.

- Starting/Stopping IBM SmartCloud Entry (Windows vs Linux/AIX)

- VMWare vs VMControl considerations
- VMWare vs VMControl Problem determination steps
The recent update of 1SX2 includes materials related to the migration of data between
SCE 2.3 and 2.4. This material includes both information and lab exercise steps. For the
update of 1SP2, it is my recommendation that the information about migration be
mentioned, but no actual lab steps be provided.

Course content overlap with NGT71 IBM SmartCloud Entry

Implementation in IBM PureFlex
The NGT71 material overlaps with content of the 1SP2/1SX2 course materials. The
NGT71 adds in materials related to:
- Introduction to Cloud
- Power Virtualization and VMControl
These topics are not required in 1SP2, because they are covered by the course
prerequisite requirements.

Development team
The development team will consist of two staff members from UNIX Software Service
Enablement (USSE) team:
- Mike Easlon (USSE)
This team will do the primary development and they will prepare and test the exercises.

Review team
The review team will consist of the development team and:
-

Tyrone Dechalus (IBMT)

Karim Haffad (IBMT)
Thanh V Lam (IBMT)
Karim Haffad (IBMTT)
Patrick Mensac (Lab environment setup)
